Semester Warnings is required to meet with their Area Coordinator in his or her major to formulate a plan t<strong>of</strong>or improving the student’s performance. The Mid-Semester Warning is intended to make the student aware <strong>of</strong>insufficient progress <strong>and</strong> avoid failing the course; it should not be considered punitive <strong>and</strong> does not appear onthe student’s transcript.K . 1 5 . A c a d e m i c R e v i e wAll students who earn an “F” in a core course <strong>and</strong> /or have a semester grade point below 2.0 will be placed onAcademic Review <strong>and</strong> notified by the Registrar to meet with the <strong>Student</strong> Success Committee at the end <strong>of</strong> thesemester for an academic hearing to review problems <strong>and</strong> create strategies to ensure successful academicprogress.K . 1 6 . A c a d e m i c a n d F i n a n c i a l A i d W a r n i n gA student who is no longer in good academic st<strong>and</strong>ing (i.e. who fails to maintain a minimum cumulative gradepoint average <strong>of</strong> 2.0), will be placed on academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid warning for the following semester.<strong>Student</strong>s will be notified <strong>of</strong> their warning status in a letter from the Registrar <strong>and</strong> in their Financial Aid SAPReport. To remove themselves from academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid warning, the student must earn a minimum 2.0cumulative grade point average during the semester <strong>of</strong> warning status.K . 1 7 . A c a d e m i c a n d F i n a n c i a l A i d D i s m i s s a lFailure to remove oneself from academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid warning within one semester is consideredunsatisfactory academic progress <strong>and</strong> results in academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid dismissal. The Registrar will mailstudents an Academic Dismissal Notice along with academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid Reinstatement appealprocedures.K . 1 8 . A c a d e m i c a n d F i n a n c i a l A i d A p p e a l P r o c e d u r e sOnce dismissed, students may appeal for academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid reinstatement within five business daysfrom the date posted on the Academic Dismissal Notice. <strong>Student</strong>s seeking academic <strong>and</strong> financial aidreinstatement should complete a reinstatement form which includes an academic progress success plan <strong>and</strong> acumulative GPA calculation worksheet to submit to the Academic Dean or the Academic Action Committee.The student will find the academic appeal forms <strong>and</strong> GPA calculator at www.dcad.edu. The student may alsosubmit other documentation such as letters, medical reports as needed to support their appeal forreinstatement.Within 30 days after receiving the student’s appeal for academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid reinstatement, the academicdean will convene the Academic Action Committee, Financial Aid <strong>and</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Services Directors or theirdesignees to review <strong>and</strong> render a decision regarding the student’s appeal. The student’s appeal may include arequest to meet with the Academic Action Committee to present his or her petition.The Registrar will send the student an academic appeal decision letter within 10 business days following theAcademic Action Committee’s appeal decision. Appeal decision options are as follows:K.18.a. If the student’s appeal for academic <strong>and</strong> financial aid reinstatement is approved, the student is placed27
