The regional coordinators worked with the nationalstatistical offices to review the national accounts data toensure that they conformed to the standards of the Systemof National Accounts, 1993. Similar reviews were conductedfor population and exchange rate data.The tables of global results reflect the data for GDP,population, and exchange rates shown in the regionalpublications. In some cases, these data differ from thosepublished elsewhere by the World Bank or by other internationalorganizations. One reason is that the internationalorganizations may not have the most current informationor they may publish numbers based upon their own expertanalysis.Reference PeriodsThe reference period for household consumption includinghousing and government was 2005. Data for equipmentand construction were collected mostly in the second halfof 2006, with some Africa countries continuing into firstquarter 2007. The data were taken “as is” because of thelack of quarterly deflators to calibrate them to 2005.Effect of Methodology on ComparabilityThree regions, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Western Asia, applieda productivity adjustment to compute the governmentPPPs in their regions (described in appendix D). The productivityadjustment takes into account that more devel-
