Fellows also provide supervision to college student “friendly visitors” learningto interview older adults. Opportunities for specialized work in hospice andpalliative care are available.Clinical Supervisor: Kate Hinrichs, Ph.D.Home Based Primary Care (HBPC): This interdisciplinary team providesassessment and treatment to home-bound veterans and their caregivers,consistent with the Patient-Centered Medical Home model. The goal of theprogram is to improve access to care and reduce disparities for vulnerableveterans. The Fellow will observe veterans in their everyday living context,and complete psychological and capacity evaluations to informrecommendations for care.Clinical Supervisors: Michelle Mlinac, Psy.D., Maggie Murphy, Psy.D.Research Experience: Fellows typically spend one day per week devoted toresearch, writing, and/or program development activities. As part of the initialtraining contract, Fellows define academic/research goals for the year and choose afaculty advisor for these activities. Our goal is to provide a research trainingexperience that supports the trainees goals. We recognize the diverse forms thatscholarly activity may take, and focus on raising questions informed by your clinicalwork and developing research methodologies to answer those questions. Withinour geropsychology program, we engage in clinical applied research and programevaluation focusing on improving the quality of care for older patients with complexcomorbidities. Our projects range from large-scale grant funded research to smallscaleevaluation of clinical interventions.
