evaluation and performance improvement activities, and conducting clinicalresearch.At the completion of their Fellowship, Fellows will be able to:• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of alcohol and drug use and cooccurringpsychiatric problems including PTSD• Provide evidence-based treatment for returning veterans with alcohol anddrug problems in both group and individual formats• Provide evidence-based treatment for a wide range of co-occurringpsychiatric disorders including PTSDTeaching Methods/Supervision: Trainees will receive their clinical training inthe Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) and the Center for ReturningVeterans (CRV) at the Jamaica Plain campus. Supervision will be providedindividually and in a group format with faculty from each of these programs. TheFellow will have an opportunity to learn how to supervise other trainees under theguidance of licensed clinical staff, and receive both group and individual“supervision of supervision”. Specialized readings are provided to supplement aFellow’s training depending on his or her interests and needs.The Fellow will also participate in didactic training through: a) the SATP’s monthlydidactic seminar series on topics including: treatment of comorbid disorders(including the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and DBT insubstance-using populations; more recent developments in substance use disorders(such as the increase in “designer drug” use); and lethality prevention insubstance-using populations; and b) the CRV’s monthly didactic seminar series(topics have included military culture, clinician self-care, mindfulness) and c) theNational Center for PTSD (NC-PTSD)’s workshops on Seeking Safety and CognitiveProcessing Therapy; and lectures on assessment of trauma and trauma-relatedsymptoms, war history, interviewing processes, lethality, and treatment forreturning veterans. These programs include an opportunity to interact withnumerous staff from psychology, social work, and psychiatry.VA Boston Psychology FellowshipSupervision is directed by Erin Scott Daly, Ph.D., the Fellowship’s Track Directorand the Director of the CRV. Additional supervision is provided by Glenn Trezza,Ph.D., Staff Psychologist in the SARRTP and the ADTP and Substance AbuseFellowship Track Director; Monica Roy, Ph.D., Program Manager of the SARRTP andof the ADTP; Kevin Brailey, Ph.D., Staff Psychologist in the CRV; and by DeborahBrief, Ph.D., Director of VA Boston’s Residential Treatment Services.Research: The Fellow will have the opportunity to join a research team thatincludes faculty in the SATP, CRV, and NC-PTSD.
