DANCEFull School Year Dance ProgramSeptember, 2015 - May, 2016 (No Classes 11/23-11/28, 12/21-1/2, 3/21-3/26)Dance Studio, Sullivan CenterPre Ballet 1 & 2: This class introduces the child to dance through music, rhythm and creative movements. It fosters your child’s naturalinstincts to dance. Register your child according to his or her age at the first day of class.Dance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, pink ballet shoes and hair in a bun.Intro to Ballet 1/2: This class is an introduction to and continuation of classical ballet. The dancer will learn basic ballet positions, simplecombinations, terminology and creative movement. Level 1 = Kindergarten, 2 = 1st gradeDance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun.Ballet 1/2/3: Classical ballet is taught in this class. The student will learn terminology, barre work, center combinations and across thefloor progressions. The technique and level of difficulty will increase with each level of ballet.Dance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun.Pre Tap 1/2: This is an introduction and a continuation of tap. Basic tap steps and rhythms will be taught. This class is for 4-6 year olds.Dance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, black tap shoes, and hair tightly secured.Pre Tap 2/Tap 1: This is a continuation of Pre tap 1 and Intro. to Tap 1. Basic tap steps and rhythms will be taught. Kindergarten - 9 years.Dance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, black tap shoes, and hair tightly secured.Tap 1/2: Tap dance involves manipulating your feet to create sounds and rhythms. The technique and the degree of difficulty will increasewith each level of tap. Dance Attire: Black leotard, black tap shorts or capris, black tap shoes, and hair tightly securedDanceHip Hop/Jazz 1/2/3/4: Learn the techniques of jazz dance through progressions and center combinations and the latest trends of hip hopthrough technique and combinations set to today’s most popular music. Dance Attire: Black leotard, black jazz pants and black jazz shoes.Ballet 6/Pointe: Classical ballet for the serious dancer will be studied in detail, incorporating pointe into the ballet class. Students musthave teacher approval to register for Pointe. Dance Attire: Black leotard, light pink tights, pink ballet or pointe shoes, and hair in a bun.Lyrical 1/2/3/4: Lyrical is a dance style that blends modern and jazz dance and is characterized by its fluidity and grace. We will use movementand lyrics to help the dancer express strong emotions throughout the piece. The class also include stretches, across floor progressions,leaps, and turns. The cost of costumes and tickets are not included inthe class fee. These items will need to be purchased for the recital. Dress rehearsal is mandatory in order to participate in the dancerecital. The recital is optional. Your child can register for the class even if he or she decides not to participate in the recital.Pre Ballet I Recital is Sunday, May 1, 3 pm, at the Sullivan Community CenterAll other classes: Rehearsal is Saturday, May 21.
