Editorial ProceduresThe Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on publication of submitted manuscripts. Todetermine whether a submitted manuscript meets the standards for publication, each manuscript(except book reviews) undergoes a blind peer review conducted by members of the EditorialBoard. Members of the Editorial Board shall conduct an objective and anonymous review ofmanuscripts submitted to them by the Editor-in-Chief. Once the Editorial Board provides arecommendation to the Editor-in-Chief regarding publication, a manuscript is managed by thejournal’s editorial staff. The editorial staff will review each manuscript to ensure that it meets thejournal’s editorial standards, as well as the relevant aims and goals of The Journal ofAstrosociology. The Editorial Board and editorial staff will review a manuscript for analyticalrigor, spelling, grammar, style, length, and relevance to the field of astrosociology. The Editorin-Chief,upon recommendation from the editorial staff, may require an Author to makereasonable changes and corrections as appropriate. An Author’s failure to agree to reasonablechanges could result in delayed publication. All disputes between an Author and the editorialstaff shall be resolved by the Editor-in-Chief and conducted in good faith.Once the Editorial Board has provided a recommendation for publication, the Editor-in-Chief will designate the manuscript provisionally accepted. At that time, the Editor-in-Chief willrequire the Author to sign, date, and return a license to publish with The Journal ofAstrosociology. The license to publish forms a contractual relationship between theAstrosociology Research Institute and the Author that binds the Author to publication with thejournal. Once the Editor-in-Chief receives an Author’s license to publish, the editorial staff willbegin the editing process and periodically keep the Author informed of the status of themanuscript and citation review. Following the editorial review, the Editor-in-Chief will transmitthe final edited copy back to the Author for approval prior to publication. Publication of the finalreviewed manuscript will occur after Author approval. However, the Editor-in-Chief reserves theright to withhold publication for suspicion of plagiarism, mischaracterization, ormisrepresentation of material, unethical behavior by the Author, use of potentially libelousstatements, substandard grammar and analytical rigor, failure to obtain a license or waiver topublish copyrighted material, or discovery of past publication. In addition, the Editor-in-Chiefalso reserves the right to hold a manuscript over for publication in a subsequent issue. However, the Editor-in-Chief will first consult with an Author to ensure the decision does not prejudice theAuthor.Submission Types and StandardsThe Journal of Astrosociology accepts three types of manuscripts: articles, essays, and bookreviews. Criteria for each are as follows:• Articles are submissions between approximately ten thousand (10,000) and twentythousand (20,000) words of original research• Essays are submissions generally under ten thousand (10,000) words that advocate aviewpoint or normative position© 2015 Astrosociology Research Instituteiv
