LONDON AND EAST OF ENGLAND
GOLF DAY AT HERTFORDSHIRE GOLF
AND COUNTRY CLUB
AFTER breakfast our Golf Day started in
sunshine; it was so hot that all the players
were grateful for the half way refreshments
provided by Smith & Williamson LLP and
Buttsbury Consulting.
The winning team represented
CICM’s Premium Partners, Hays Credit
Management. Alison and Stephen Thorp,
of TTS (Tool Tech Systems), and Simon
Arnold and Stephen Pyle from Hays Credit
Management, amassed 86 points to win the
team prizes donated, appropriately enough,
by Hays Credit Management themselves!
Daniel Adcock, Hays’ Colchester Office
Manager, and East of England Branch
committee member, attended to support
the Hays players.
Buttsbury Consulting were second
with 76 points – Richard Brown, East of
England Branch Chairman, and owner
of Buttsbury Consulting, Paul Campbell,
formerly of NHS, Trevor Huckle, formerly of
Ingleton Wood, and Brian Lamb, of Fleuty &
Robinson.
Mike Eaton of Metsagroup won the
individual competition, sponsored by
Smith & Williamson LLP, with 37 Stableford
points, just one more than Trevor Huckle.
Mike, playing for the Kelvin Hughes team
captained by former East of England
Branch Treasurer David Seago, also
won the ‘nearest to the pin competition’,
also sponsored by Smith & Williamson
LLP.
Alison Thorp was a member of the
winning team, and also collected the
longest drive prize, sponsored by Buttsbury
Consulting. What made her drive all the more
impressive was that she drove off the same
(white) tees as the men.
The enjoyable event concluded with a
steak pie dinner followed by prize giving.
Mike Wykes, of Smith & Williamson
LLP, a London Branch Committee member,
and a former Essex Branch Chairman,
organised the event in fine style. He’s
standing down after many years and
Richard Brown’s tribute was met with warm
applause. Both branches would both like to
thank all who took part, and our generous
sponsors, Smith & Williamson LLP, Buttsbury
Consulting and Hays Credit Management.

SUSSEX AND SURREY BRANCH
HAYS DNA OF A CREDIT MANAGER
THE Surrey and Sussex Branch were
fortunate enough to have THALES UK,
Crawley as our hosts for the June branch
meeting.
The morning began at 8:00 with an
enjoyable networking session over some
equally enjoyable bacon rolls! We were then
seated in the impressive auditorium where
we were treated to several informative and
insightful presentations.
Karen Young, Director of Hays Credit
Management opened proceeding by
delivering the results of the recently
published DNA of a Credit Management
report. We then heard from Andrew
Athineos (MCICM), Head of Legal
Collections at 1st Credit, who shared his
thoughts on the key attributes that have
sculpted his successful career to date.
Our host, Nicola Reuter-Sinclair
(MCICM), from Thales UK then gave us a
humorous overview of her career to date
and how process improvement and strategy
are now her key focus. Michelle Westbrook,
Senior Credit Controller at Hays and current
CICM Level 3 student then gave us an
overview into juggling her studies with
work, and her aspirations to become a fully
qualified credit manager in the future.
A highly enjoyable morning where we
welcomed both new and familiar faces,
many thanks to all our speakers and our
generous hosts for making the event such
a success.
