In the second step, the socio-<strong>economic</strong> indicators were fed into the so called S-LCA
Assessment Sheet in order to facilitate the data collection with the help of local research
partners in Ghana. The S-LCA Assessment Sheet was used to transform the socio-<strong>economic</strong>
indicators into various topics. Under each topic, each socio-<strong>economic</strong> indicator was
rephrased & elaborated in the form of a question that was used by local research partners
during the data collection in Ghana. Additionally, a fictional example was provided next to the
questions on the S-LCA Assessment Sheet to clarify which kind of socio-<strong>economic</strong> data was
needed. The complete S-LCA Assessment Sheet can be found in Annex I.
Using the S-LCA Assessment Sheet, Green Advocacy Ghana conducted the data collection
between December 2009 <strong>and</strong> April 2010. Data collection involved various techniques ranging
from face-to-face interviews, visual inspections, transect walk <strong>and</strong> expert interviews. As
Accra represents the focal point of refurbishing <strong>and</strong> e-waste recycling in Ghana, <strong>and</strong> as the
city covers all product groups <strong>and</strong> product-related processes (collection, refurbishing,
recycling <strong>and</strong> disposal), it was decided to limit the primary data collection for the socio<strong>economic</strong>
<strong>assessment</strong> to the city of Accra. The following figure shows the areas of data
collection in Accra:
