American wildflowers. In this three-day<br />
class, you will learn the fundamental<br />
structures, techniques and materials of<br />
pop-up engineering while building 10-12 exquisite flower forms. You can bind<br />
the structures together to create a book or keep them separate for gifting to<br />
family and friends. Either way, you will have the knowledge and skills to begin<br />
creating your own cards at home. No experience necessary, patience is a must.<br />
Capturing the Light with Watercolor<br />

Watercolor is unique in its ability to capture light in<br />
luminous flowing washes. This class focuses on color<br />
and creating the illusion of light. Students will learn<br />
techniques to paint everything from sunlit summer<br />
landscapes to moody fog-filled village scenes. Create<br />
gems of transparent color surrounded with the more<br />
opaque but equally important earth colors. Emphasis on understanding the color<br />
wheel, basic color theory and mixing colors effectively will give more depth and<br />
drama to your paintings. For advanced beginners to intermediate students.<br />

Abstract Drawing & Painting<br />

Students will develop abstract paintings by taking<br />
their first drawings of the class and moving those<br />
images toward greater and greater abstractions in<br />
subsequent paintings. You will begin with India ink drawings then move into the<br />
media of your choice. Besides learning how to create an abstract image, we will<br />
also look at the career development of famous artists as they moved from realism<br />
to abstraction.<br />
Students will print images using the monotype technique,<br />
combining painting and printing processes. A monotype<br />
is a single, unique print taken from an inked design on a<br />
sheet of Plexiglas. Students will learn basic intaglio press<br />
management skills, how to use various inks in multiple<br />
layers, and additive and subtractive techniques to create<br />
powerful images.<br />
The Great American Poster<br />

Get into the spirit of poster printing by creating an<br />
edition of unique posters by letterpress, using a variety<br />
of printing mediums. The posters can be fictitious<br />
with lots of artistic license, or to advertise a real event.<br />
The printing will be done on a Vandercook printing<br />
press. Students will use wood and metal hand-set type<br />
for text and illustrate by wood engraving, linocuts,<br />
woodcut and airbrush. There will also be some historic stock cuts available to use.<br />
Pastel Plein Air Painting<br />

Paint outside with pastels in beautiful <strong>Grand</strong><br />
<strong>Marais</strong>. The basics of outdoor painting will<br />
be discussed throughout the week, as well as<br />
topics including choosing your own subject,<br />
design and composition considerations, importance of accurate drawing, painting<br />
fundamentals and more as we work together. Instructor demonstrations, personal<br />
assistance at your easel and group critiques will give us a chance to learn as we<br />
explore plein air (outdoor) painting in a fun and supportive environment.<br />

Make better photographs by applying classic<br />
elements to your pictures. Students will use place<br />
and landscape as our subject to explore light,<br />
spatial relationships, vantage point, time, and framing through exercises based on<br />
these visual elements. Class will edit photographs through discussions of strengths<br />
and weaknesses. Students should end up with 10 or more strong photographs for<br />
your portfolio or personal use. Please be familiar with your digital camera (either<br />
digital SLR or point-and-shoot models).<br />
Fused Glass Tiles<br />

This comprehensive class covers the basics of glass<br />
fusing. Design with frit (granulated glass) and<br />
cut stained glass pieces to create and fuse small, colorful tiles. Gain an<br />
understanding about firing schedules and confidence in small kiln operation.<br />
Encaustic Painting & Collage<br />

Encaustic painting is an ancient medium that<br />
combines molten beeswax and pigment to<br />
achieve luminous color and tactile surfaces.<br />
Students will explore how encaustic painting<br />
can be used with collage to develop imagery. Possible collage materials include<br />
photographs, drawings, found papers, organic material, and photo transfers. All<br />
painting materials are provided. Bring a variety of collage materials.<br />
Introduction to Oils<br />

This beginner course will give students the<br />
inspiration, confidence and nuts and bolts to<br />
make beautiful oil paintings. You will learn<br />
how to tackle any subject as Todd guides you<br />
