Learn the fundamentals of design. Emphasis will be<br />

placed on the elements and principles used to create<br />

dynamic designs and compositions. 3-D projects will be<br />

used to understand each element and explore the design<br />

principles. This class can be a precursor to Drawing Basics<br />

or a stand-alone class. Bring your creativity, design problems and questions.<br />

Drawing Basics<br />

Acrylics, Inkjets & Collage<br />

Embark on a creative journey at your comfort level<br />

as you collage your way through this class. Learn<br />

innovative ways to create collage elements using photos<br />

or drawings and an inkjet printer. Manipulate your<br />

personal images as you push acrylic materials to new<br />

heights. Practice transfer techniques with step-by-step<br />

instructions and explore different surfaces to draw and paint on. Learn great<br />

techniques while having fun applying them. All acrylic materials provided. This<br />

class can be taken with Gels & Grounds Galore.<br />

Drawing is the basis for all mediums of art. Working with<br />

pencil, charcoal and other basic drawing materials, we will<br />

develop an artistic understanding of line, shape and form.<br />

Students will walk through the techniques of drawing as<br />

they learn to interpret their vision on paper, enabling you<br />

to draw anything.<br />

Wood-Fire Raku<br />

Students will learn all facets involved with the woodfire<br />

raku process. Topics include: glazing, loading,<br />

firing, unloading and post-firing techniques. Students<br />

will work together to build a wood-fire raku kiln, a<br />

process that can be replicated at home. Students are<br />

encouraged to bring 10-15 small to medium size, cone<br />

05, bisqued raku vessels to the class. These vessels will<br />

be glazed and fired during the workshop. Wheel demonstrations and requests will<br />

be provided as time permits.<br />

Bead-scapes: Land, Sea or Sky<br />

This is an intermediate level class for people with<br />

some bead work or appliqué experience and a<br />

desire to expand their skills in composition, depth<br />

and texture. Project emphasis is placed on students<br />

painting a landscape of their choice with beads on felted wool. Additionally,<br />

students will create multiple small bead renderings to discuss and share with the<br />

group in a work/study format. Each day will focus on a different textural element,<br />

technique or pattern creation.<br />

Gels & Grounds Galore<br />

Gloss or matte sheen, opaque or transparent<br />

ground, textural or smooth surface; all are<br />

considerations when working with acrylic grounds<br />

and gels. Explore a variety of seductive surfaces to paint or draw on with different<br />

combinations of materials suited to your individual style and imagery. Learn about<br />

different uses for gels, including making gel skins for collage and printing on.<br />

Clear explanations of materials used will be presented. Leave with worksheets filled<br />

with applications of materials for future reference. All acrylic materials provided.<br />

This class can be taken with Acrylics, Inkjets & Collage.<br />

Block Printing: Start to Finish<br />

Whether you are just beginning, or looking to<br />

expand your block printing knowledge, this<br />

class will get you excited about the world of<br />

Relief Printmaking. Students will walk through the block printing process while<br />

working on a variety of mini lessons that can be applied at any level of experience.<br />

Various printing topics and techniques will be covered such as single color prints,<br />

multi-colored blocks and reduction prints. Students will learn about and use the<br />

Vandercook printing press.<br />

Mentored I<br />

Hazel Belvo<br />

July 23-27: 5 days<br />

Tuition: $475<br />

In this workshop, artists work in the medium of their<br />

choice under the close mentorship of Hazel Belvo.<br />

This class is for practicing artists who have produced<br />

a body of work in a particular medium. Much like a<br />

“Master Class” setting, students will explore the artist within, elaborating on their<br />

own personal imagery. There will be group dialogue with specific topics that are<br />

critical to the artistic process and a final critique.<br />

Animal Sculpture<br />

Bring metal to life by welding,<br />

cutting, melting, forging and<br />

hammering steel into a wild animal from the North Shore. In this metal-working<br />

class focused on forged and welded steel, students will make a 16” sculpture.<br />

Students will learn various techniques to make realistic sculptures that will be ready<br />

to set on a mantel or desk or even in the garden. Learn the basics of metalwork<br />

while learning to think and build in 3-D. Bring images of animals of interest.<br />

Introduction to Intaglio Printing<br />

July 28-29: 2 days<br />

Tuition: $150 / Supply Fee: $33<br />

Learn the basics of Intaglio printing and open<br />

the door to a variety of printmaking techniques.<br />

In this class, we will use drypoint to apply and<br />

develop an image onto a copper plate and then<br />

print it using the intaglio process. Students will learn to make and modify a<br />

drypoint plate, prepare the ink, ink and wipe the plate, prepare the paper, and<br />

properly use the etching press. This class qualifies students to independently use the<br />

print studio.
