On Implementation of Optional Protocols<br />

to the Convention on the Rights of the Child<br />

• In May 2002, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ratified the Optional<br />

Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child<br />

Pornography and Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in<br />

Armed Conflict, while the Republic of Serbia, after its establishment<br />

assumed the obligations under the Optional Protocols.<br />

• In the first half of 2008, the Republic of Serbia submitted to the<br />

Committee the Initial Reports on implementation of Optional<br />

Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child for the period<br />

2002–2007.<br />

• In June 2008, the Coalition for the Child’s Rights Monitoring started<br />

the work on preparation of the Alternative Reports.<br />

• In September 2009, the Children’s Coalition for participation in<br />

the reporting procedure pertaining to the Optional Protocols was<br />

established. The Children’s Coalition conducted a research of the<br />

opinions and attitudes of children on the topics covered by the<br />

Protocols, which became an integral part of the Alternative Reports.<br />

• In December 2009, the Alternative Reports were submitted to the<br />

Committee.<br />

• In February 2010, the Children’s Coalition representatives, together<br />

with the representatives of the Coalition for Monitoring of the Right’s<br />

of the Child, presented the Alternative Reports to the Committee<br />

members.<br />
