The training that was organized at the beginning of the process
of reporting on the Convention included familiarizing with the
Convention on the Rights of the Child, with a special emphasis on the
right of the child to participation, the Committee for the Rights of the
Child, the process of reporting to the Committee, and especially the
role and experiences of children in this process. An important part
of the training was acquainting with the way in which the data are
gathered in polls recognized by the DX members during the preparatory
process to be the best method to explore the attitudes and awareness
of children pertaining to their rights. After gaining this knowledge, the
Coalition, supported by the Coordinator, developed a plan of action for
the implementation of further activities.
The process of strengthening the children for the process of reporting
on the Protocols included the information about the rights and basic
terms included in the Protocols, followed by children’s familiarization
with different types of research and the instruments used in it
(questionnaires, polls, focus groups, etc). Based on the information
they received, the children, with the support of the Center’s project
team, defined their mode of work, i.e. which type of data they would
gather and in what way.
Apart from the work on the acquiring of specific knowledge and skills
required in the reporting process, it was also important to promote the
group dynamics. During the trainings, the participants were acquainted
with the nature of group work and the specifics of such mode of work.
The emphasis was put on the importance and role of cooperation in
group work, which was highly important during the further activities
of the reporting process.
