2015 South Dakota Nurses Association
District Reports
Districts 1, 2, & 3
Districts 1, 2 and 3 were pleased to host the SDNA Convention in Rapid City in October of 2014 and appreciated the great
turnout of members who attended. Linda DeLong was honored as the District 1 - 3 Nurse of the Year.
District meetings were in September, October, and November of 2014, and January, March, April, July, and September of
2015; we welcomed new members and visitors to each of the meetings. Most meetings were held on Tuesdays at 5:30 PM.
Meeting locations were Rapid City Regional Hospital, the Grille at Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn, or Minerva’s Restaurant at
the Ramkota Hotel. The following programs were presented: Kevin Queen of Rapid City Regional Hospital on “What is Magnet
Status?” and three DNP students who presented their Practice Improvement Projects: Ericka Privitt on “Effects of Meal Breaks
on ICU Nurses”; Kim Mitzel-Oberloh on “Decreasing Illness-Related Absences in School Age Children through Hand Hygiene
Education”; and Laura Schirber on “Reducing Urinary Catheter Days and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections by Daily
Nurse Rounding.”
The annual Dessert with the Legislators was held November 20, 2014. This continues to be an important event; member
and legislator attendance was excellent and a good discussion of issues was held. District members raised funds for SDNA by
working at the Central States Fair in Rapid City during August 2015.
Fall district meetings for 2015 are scheduled for October 20 (Minerva’s Restaurant at the Ramkota 5:30 pm) and the November
Dessert with the Legislators (date and place to be determined). Future district meetings will be January, March, and April or
May (with Nurses Day at the Legislature in February). Members are encouraged to mark their calendars and attend. E-mail
announcements with agenda will be sent out before each meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Shaver
