How do the Dominican Sisters 

play a role in guiding Mount de 

Sales Academy and continuing the 

traditions of the Visitation Sisters, 

who founded MDSA? 

The Dominican Sisters have done 

an incredible job of picking up 

where the Visitation Sisters left 

off when they retired from Mount 

de Sales. The Dominicans have 

seamlessly put their own stamp on 

how they lead the school. It’s more 

than running a school, it is their 

life's mission. 

In what way(s) do the students 

of Mount de Sales Academy 

benefit the most from the Sisters’ 

administration of MDSA? 

The students benefit from seeing 

what I call a “counter cultural” 

lifestyle lived in front of them. 

There’s a Sister for everybody! The 

Sisters love each and every student. 

And they don’t do it by preaching 

from a pulpit but by example, right 

in front of you. 

How do you think the presence of 

the Dominican Sisters at Mount de 

Sales Academy will help to shape 

the school over the next 160 years? 

The Sisters help to shape the 

school by keeping it faithful to the 

traditions that the Visitation Sisters 

established. Their integrity means 

that they would never steer the 

school into something different from 

who they are. Doing a good job 

now ensures another 160 years of 

tradition!

Catholic foundation established 

by the Visitation Sisters with 

respect to the traditions and 

history of the school. They have 

respect for the whole heritage of 

Mount de Sales Academy, from 

1852 to 2012. 

In what way(s) do the students 

of Mount de Sales Academy 

benefit the most from the Sisters’ 

administration of MDSA? 

The Sisters serve as fantastic role 

models for how to be a Catholic 

woman in today's society. 

How do you think the presence of 

the Dominican Sisters at Mount 

de Sales Academy will help to 

shape the school over the next 

160 years? 

The Dominican Sisters will 

keep Mount de Sales Academy 

grounded in its Catholic roots 

even as it becomes more 

competitive. I’m pleased that 

the new convent was in the first 

phase of the Capital Campaign, 

as it recognizes Mount de Sales 

as first and foremost a Catholic 

institution.
