Sullivan ’11 Named<br />

Merit Finalist<br />

Sean Sullivan '11 has been named a<br />

Finalist in the National Merit<br />

Scholarship Program. About 1.5 million<br />

juniors in 22,000 high schools entered the<br />

2011 National Merit Scholarship Program<br />

by taking the 2009 Preliminary<br />

SAT/National Merit Scholarship<br />

Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).<br />

Approximately 15,000 students, less than<br />

one percent of u.S. high school seniors,<br />

were named Finalists. Sullivan will be<br />

considered for National Merit<br />

Scholarships to be awarded later this year.<br />

Matra ’13 Made It To<br />

Shakespeare Finals<br />

Julian Matra ’13, the winner of the St.<br />

Sebastian’s School Shakespeare<br />

Competition, was one of ten students to<br />

advance to the Final Round of the English<br />

Speaking union’s 2011 Boston<br />

Shakespeare Competition held at Emerson<br />

College on February 6. during the<br />

competition Matra had to perform a<br />

monologue and a sonnet before a panel of<br />

three judges. He also was given fieen<br />

minutes to prepare and deliver a dramatic<br />

reading.<br />

Chen ’13 Named To All-<br />

State Orchestra<br />

kenny Chen '13 was named to the<br />

Massachusetts Music Educators<br />

Association (MMEA) All-State Orchestra,<br />

placing him among the top musicians in<br />

the state. He was selected 15th chair in the<br />

viola section. e road to All-States<br />

involves auditioning and being selected for<br />

the Eastern districts prior to taking part in<br />

the All-State audition.<br />

Balboni ’12 Earned Top<br />

Speaker Recognition<br />

Aidan Balboni ’12 was named Top<br />

Speaker in the Parliamentary<br />

Extemporaneous debate Competition<br />

during the debate Tournament we hosted<br />

on Sunday, February 13. Also earning<br />

recognition was the Novice Team of dan<br />

Fulham '14 and Will kenney '14, who<br />

achieved a perfect record with three wins<br />

and no losses. Eighteen schools<br />

participated in the tournament.<br />

Mike deschenes and his wife Mary-<br />

Ellen welcomed their third child,<br />

Alexandra Margaret, on February 6.<br />

dan Burke and his wife kathryn<br />

welcomed their first child, Jackson James,<br />

on February 25.<br />

Jack doherty ’62 was presented with the<br />

“unsung Hero Award” by the Travis Roy<br />

Foundation during the Foundation’s annual<br />

Christmas Party in december.<br />

Greg Lynch ’00 was named a finalist to<br />

receive the Positive Coaching Alliance<br />

double-Goal Coach Award in February.<br />

Matt Hadge ’07, a sophomore goalie at<br />

Wesleyan university, was named<br />

New England Small College Athletic<br />

Conference men’s ice hockey Player of the<br />

Week for his performance in games from<br />

January 17-23.<br />

PT donato ’09, a sophomore at Babson<br />

College, was named Eastern College<br />

Athletic Conference Player of the Week for<br />

his performance during games played on<br />

January 21-22.<br />

Peter Burke ’10, a freshman lacrosse<br />

midfielder at Bucknell, earned Patriot<br />

League Rookie of the Week, in part, for his<br />

performance in a win over Albany the week<br />

of March 28.<br />

Connor Toomey ’07, a junior hockey<br />

goalie for the Milwaukee School of<br />

Engineering, was named to the NCAA<br />

division III All-American West Second<br />

Team West Squad. Toomey is also the<br />

Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association<br />
