more contemporary repertoire. is club performs during the
Last year, with the acquisition of some state of the art recording
equipment, music teacher karl Grohmann produced a very
successful Student Music Cd that contained a lot of original
School’s Liturgical Ministries. e primary function of this group is
service to the School Community at monthly masses and prayer
DramaClub - e fall drama Presentation is a full-length play
that varies each year as a musical, drama, or comedy. Since we’ve
been blessed with good singers lately, the last two fall performances
have been musicals: DamnYankees and HowtoSucceedinBusiness
WithoutReallyTrying. Two years ago the Club presented Henrik
Ibsen’s AnEnemyofthePeople. Parts for these productions are
open to the entire School.
We enter our winter play in the Massachusetts High School
drama Festival, an annual theatre competition involving over one
hundred high schools. Although in the past our entry in the Festival
has gone on to the semifinals and even the finals on one occasion, in
recent years our students have not been able to commit to the dates
of the subsequent rounds due to other engagements. Consequently,
we normally enter the Festival noncompetitively. We are still in the
running for individual honors, however. is past March we
presented eCourtMartialofBillyBudd at Sharon High School.
Sophomores Michael Petro and Julian Matra received acting awards,
and one of our techies, Shawn Lynch ’15, earned an award for
sound.
e school holds a Shakespeare Competition each year as well.
Students memorize and interpret a monologue from one of the
Bard’s plays and perform it for a small panel of judges. Our school
winner then goes on to a statewide semifinal round. is past
January our School winner, Julian Matra’13, was one of ten selected
at the semifinals to go on to the final round at Emerson College.
CelebrationoftheArts - One of the highlights of the year for our
department is the annual cookout and awards evening in May.
ere are music performances and student artwork is exhibited.
Members of the Fine Arts clubs during the year receive certificates
and pins for their participation.
Recent and Coming Changes
Now that ground is being broken on the opposite side of campus
for the new Science, Math & Library Center, more changes will be
coming to the Arts Center. Currently, due to lack of space, there
are some Math, Religion, and History classes held in the Arts
Center. Completion of the new building will free up space for
these classes elsewhere, enabling our space to be all about the Fine
Arts. is could mean more and varied courses. ere has been
some discussion about adding a Woodworking Shop and having a
digital Photography Lab.
