WINTER SPORTS
team was the Arrows’ first opponent.
Although Berkshire outplayed and outshot
Seb’s early, Gordon donnelly’s excellent
netminding kept Seb’s in the game.
Numerous outstanding saves by donnelly
kept the Bears off the score sheet until the
middle of the first period, when the team
found their legs and hands and started to
respond. down 1-0 early in the second
period, danny O’Regan tied the game with
his first of three as Seb’s fought to the very
end for a very important 5-2 win. e next
day Seb’s played Williston-Northampton in
a very tight contest. Williston’s goalie was
extremely good, making 39 saves. david
Loughborough notched his second goal of
the season and Gerard McEleney scored
with only 11 seconds remaining to escape
with a 3-2 victory.
With four consecutive wins under their
belt, Seb’s entered the most difficult portion
of their season against fellow ISL members.
Nobles was up first. e game was
exceedingly physical and both teams
exchanged a number of good
opportunities. Joe Prescott scored his first
of three early in the first period and
Brendan Burke added two in the third to
pull away from Nobles and grab a
monumental victory. Belmont Hill was
next, but the game did not start as planned.
Aer surrendering 3 goals in the first, Seb’s
rallied in the second with four straight
goals. desmond Bergin took control of the
game with a full ice rush that resulted in the
first goal and some outstanding defensive
play to keep the opposition from
responding. e game ended in a 5-5 tie
but the resiliency and determination of this
year’s team was on display in this game.
St. Paul’s, Andover, and Governor’s all
resulted in wins as Seb’s extended its
undefeated streak to nine games. Conor
Reenstierna had an impressive defensive
game against St. Paul’s while John doherty
notched goals in consecutive games against
Andover and Governor’s.
Looking for payback Nobles welcomed
Seb’s into their facility and built a
commanding 3-0 lead midway through the
second period. With the support of the
faithful student body, the team responded
by scoring the next 5 goals to take the
momentum and game away with a 5-4 win.
A hardworking ayer team came to Seb’s
for their second meeting. With some
exceptional defensive play by dalton
MacAfee and Jake McCarthy and a much
improved penalty kill, Seb’s defeated a
difficult ayer team 3-2.
Boasting an 11-game undefeated
streaked, Seb’s travelled to Milton Academy
to play the eventual New England
Champions. Although the score was 2-2
aer the first period, the ice was tilted in
favor of Milton. e team battled valiantly,
but Milton handed Seb’s its first loss in over
a month and a half.
Two short days later Seb’s was back on
the ice for the Travis Roy Cup against
Tabor. Four different scorers helped Seb’s
build a commanding 4-1 lead, but Tabor
refused to quit and fought back to tie the
game at 5. Joe Prescott scored his second
and the eventual game winning goal
midway through the third while donny
McGuirl made some acrobatic saves to
close the door to secure the game.
e team, girded by 100 faithful Seb’s
students, travelled to Belmont Hill to meet
its perennial foe. e game was an
excellent display of hockey as both teams
played at a frenetic pace. david
Loughborough and danny O’Regan each
scored to match Belmont Hill and end
regulation at 2. In overtime Joe Prescott
provided the heroics by scoring the game
winner. Both the team and the student
body celebrated together as Seb’s secured
its first win at Belmont Hill in seven years.
unfortunately, the next five games
proved to be very different than the
previous 16. e team was hit hard by
injuries as Joe Prescott, desmond Bergin,
and Jake McCarthy all fell victim to injury.
Steady contributors such as Alex Calabro,
Austin Lewis, Nick Flanagan, Teddy
Griffin, Ben Piersiak, and Conor McGuirk
stepped up to assist, and Corey Ronan,
david Louborough, and Tommy kelley
provided consistent offensive output;
however, the team struggled to perform at
the same level. As a result, Seb’s fell to St.
Paul’s, ayer, and Lawrence twice before
the end of the season.
Although the final weeks of the season
were difficult, the Arrows earned a spot in
the playoffs. ey were pitted, in the first
game, against Belmont Hill. Once again
the faculty and student body travelled to
the game in two busloads to support the
team. Belmont Hill jumped out to a quick
lead only 11 seconds in, but Seb’s was not
discouraged. Controlling significant
portions of the first and second period
Seb’s took a 2-1 lead until a power play goal
by Belmont Hill evened the score. e
