RICK KOWALSKY — HEAD COACH/ALBANY DEVILS<br />

In fourth season as head coach of AHL’s Albany Devils; named to<br />

current post August 10, 2010…Served four seasons as head coach of<br />

ECHL’s Trenton franchise; received 2009 John Brophy Award as<br />

league’s top coach…Returned to New Jersey’s capital city after<br />

spending one year as an assistant to former Titans’ Coach Mike<br />

Haviland with Norfolk (AHL); Admirals finished campaign with<br />

impressive 43-29-4-4=94pt mark…A right wing, professional playing<br />

career spanned 12 seasons and included six teams/two leagues in<br />

North America…Also saw action in two games with BISL’s Cardiff<br />

Devils in 2000-01…Captained Titans to 2005 Kelly Cup Championship<br />

in final season as a player…Participated in 1995 and 2003 ECHL All-<br />

Star Games; served North team as captain in 2003…Totaled 221 goals<br />

and 329 assists for 550 points and 979 penalty minutes in 516 career<br />

regular-season ECHL games with Hampton Roads, Trenton and<br />

Roanoke…Served Express as player/assistant coach while compiling<br />

career-high 83 points in 2001-02…Made pro debut with Cornwall<br />

(AHL) in 1993-94…Buffalo’s tenth choice, 227th overall, in 1992 Entry<br />

Draft; did not see any action in NHL…Helped lead Sault Ste. Marie to<br />

back-to-back OHL Championships in 1991 and 1992; captained Greyhounds to 1993 Memorial Cup<br />

Championship…Born March 20, 1972 in Simcoe, Ont…Rick and his wife, Debbie, have three children:<br />

Dylan, Sydney and Ryan.<br />

In seventh year as a member of organization’s coaching staff; named to<br />

current position August 10, 2010…Spent three seasons as New Jersey<br />

assistant coach following an 18-year NHL career…Former<br />

defenseman’s career totals showed 44 goals and 211 assists for 255<br />

points in 952 regular-season games with Quebec, New Jersey and<br />

Calgary…Saw action in 539 regular-season games over 12 seasons with<br />

the Devils and was a member of its 1995 and 2003 Stanley Cup<br />

Championship teams…Also saw limited AHL action with Utica and<br />

Albany during that time…Re-signed as a free agent July 5, 2001,<br />

becoming fifth player in franchise history to re-join the team…Was<br />

traded to Calgary February 26, 1996 after eight seasons with New<br />

Jersey; played 339 games over five-plus seasons with Flames…First<br />

stint with Devils began with December 12, 1988 trade from Nordiques’<br />

organization…Made NHL debut October 8, 1987 after five seasons with<br />

Djurgardens (Swe.)…Quebec’s seventh choice (8th round) and 152nd<br />

overall selection in 1983 Entry Draft…Played for Sweden at 1998<br />

Olympic Winter Games, 1996 World Cup, five World Championships,<br />

two World Junior Championships and two Canada Cup<br />

tournaments…Served country as assistant coach during 2010 Olympic Winter Games…Spent time as<br />
