DEVILS CARE
Through the creation of the Devils Care Foundation,
the Devils and Prudential Center help support more than
800 non-profits in New Jersey. These include local and
statewide programs that promote education, health and
well-being, and the game of hockey.
Devils Care has a mission to positively impact the
lives of children and adults in New Jers ey. The
foundation focuses on programs with a proven track
record in the state that benefit New Jersey residents.
Devils Care contributed to Superstorm Sandy
recovery efforts by donating over 2,000 pounds of food,
6,700 blankets and towels and 2,400 pieces of clothing
to different relief organizations throughout New Jersey,
including the State of New Jersey’s aid distribution
center at Monmouth Racetrack.
The Devils’ mascot, NJ Devil, visited shelters and
first responders, helping to deliver donations and assist
with food and clothing drives. The Devils created a
Superstorm Sandy Central web page with up-to-date
information on relief and clean-up efforts.
ULTIMATE FAN OPPORTUNITIES
The Devils and Prudential Center held three online
raffles for fans to win an Ultimate Day with the Devils,
The raffles raised over $20,000 for Sandy charities.
The Global Hockey Legends Game between North
American and Russian Hockey Legends at Prudential
TUMBLING AHEAD WITH HOPE
When the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions
visited the Rock in November 2012, USA Gymnastics
and Prudential Center teamed up to visit two shelters in
Essex County and aid a distribution center in Hoboken
to thank volunteers and lend a helping hand organizing
donations prior to the show.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Devils Alumni Association was formed to bring
together former Devils’ players for enjoyable civic
activities and charitable fund-raisers and
charity/community service programs, and to develop
means to help promote amateur hockey.
Each year, Devils’ alumni make visits throughout the
community on behalf of the team. This season, former
Devils Ken Daneyko, Jim Dowd, Bruce Driver and Grant
Marshall made over 100 appearances throughout New
Jersey. These include trips to local businesses, schools,
youth centers and sports banquets.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
BRIGHTENING UP CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF
NEW JERSEY
Prudential Center teamed up with Ringling Bros. and
Barnum & Bailey to re-design the waiting room at the
Pediatric Health Center of the Children’s Hospital of New
Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Based on
the theme of Built to Amaze!, the waiting room was
transformed into a first-of-its-kind, circus theme with
children in mind.
In addition to unveiling the new room, the Reading
with Ringling program was introduced into the Pediatric
Center’s existing reading initiative. The worldfamous
Ringling Bros. Clown Alley visited with children
throughout the hospital bringing smiles and cheer.
MDA MUSCLE TEAM GALA
Now celebrating its 16th year, MDA’s Muscle Team
is a high-profile sports dinner where professional
athletes join each other to put their muscle behind the
search to find treatments and cures for muscle diseases.
Each athlete is paired with an MDA Buddy, a local child
living with muscular dystrophy. NJ Devil helped in this
year’s celebration, bringing his own special charm and
cheer to everyone in attendance.
HOSPITAL VISITS
Every year, the Devils visit the pediatric wards of New
Jersey hospitals to spread holiday cheer. In 2012,
members of the executive and coaching staff and NJ
Devil visited St. Barnabas Medical Center (Livingston,
NJ), Hackensack University Medical Center (Hackensack,
NJ), Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center (New
Brunswick, NJ), Holy Name Medical Center (Teaneck,
NJ), University Hospital (Newark, NJ), St. Joseph’s
Regional Medical Center (Paterson, NJ), Morristown
Memorial (Morristown, NJ) and Overlook (Summit, NJ).
HONORING A HERO EVERY GAME
Prudential Center and the Devils proudly support our
nation’s military. The American Patriot Program works
with NHL teams throughout the season to honor the
sacrifices of our Nation’s Purple Heart recipients.
In partnership with Prudential, the Devils highlight a
hero during every home game of the season. Last
season, the team honored Staff Sargent Clinton
Romesha, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his
heroic actions during a daylong attack on his outpost in
Afghanistan.
EDUCATION
READ ACROSS AMERICA
The Devils join schools across the United States
each spring in celebrating Read Across America.
Players, alumni, and broadcasters visit local schools in
an effort to promote literacy and education by reading to
elementary school children.
This year, members of the Devils Alumni
Association, including Jim Dowd, Bruce Driver and Grant
Marshall participated in Read Across America by
traveling across the state of New Jersey to appear in
classrooms to read to children and promote the
importance of reading in schools.
COLLEGE RADIO NIGHT
The Devils hosted their second annual College
Radio Night on April 1, featuring 24 students from 13
colleges and universities.
The event, in conjunction with College Radio Day,
affords college students the opportunity to embark on a
rare learning experience. This year’s event was
highlighted by a panel discussion with several key
members of the radio and television broadcast teams for
the Devils and gave students the chance to cover a
Devils’ home game.
NEWARK PUBLIC SCHOOL HONOR ROLL
The Devils remain supportive of children’s success in
school, as the team’s Honor Roll program continued this
year to recognize Newark students’ hard work and
dedication to their education.
Students in the Newark Public School system have
the opportunity to earn free Devils’ tickets based on their
grade-point averages ranging from one semester to an
entire year. More than 18,000 tickets have been
distributed in the five years of the program.
COMMUNITY PRIDE
DRESSING UP
Devils and Prudential Center employees came
together to help the local community in the inaugural
Devils Care Dressing Up clothing drive.
were invited into Prudential Center to "shop," share in
holiday cheer, visit with NJ Devil and enjoy
refreshments. More than 7,500 pieces of clothing were
collected and distributed to more than 300 local families.
NHL GREEN LEGACY TREE PROJECT
As part of the NHL’s commitment to preserve and
support the local environments of host cities for NHL
events, NHL Green’s Legacy Tree Project made its mark
at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. In cooperation with Devils
Care, the NHL Foundation donated 30 trees to represent
each league team’s commitment to sustainability.
This year's project planted cherry trees near pear
trees, creating an aesthetic at the plaza reminiscent of
vintage Devils’ colors, with green foliage accompanied
by red and white blossoms. The cherry trees will
neighbor the south side of Prudential Center.
