Islamic Teachings
worship has a voluntary aspect to it. The compulsory is
supposed to develop in us a desire to do the voluntary,
because when a person is completing the voluntary
aspects of worship, then these acts of worship are
transformed from a mere ritual into a way of life. They
become part and parcel of a person's lifestyle.
Similarly, fasting the month of Ramadhan is compulsory.
The goal, however, is not merely that we fast Ramadhan
every year, but also to make fasting a way of life for us.
What we are trying to develop, therefore, is a consistent
attitude toward fasting: to fast on a regular basis. Fasting
is about developing self-restraint, personal control over
desires, whether for food, for sexual relations, or
speaking about everything.
This control is not something that we need only one
month in a year; rather, it is needed throughout the year.
Our desire for self-control will not become a reality until
fasting becomes a way of life for us.
Similarly, Zakah is compulsory once a year. However,
Zakah is there to develop in us generosity and the love
for Sadaqah (Optional charity); Sadaqah also means
reaching out and helping others willingly whenever we
have an opportunity to do so.
To summarize, Taqwa is not simply a passive idea. It is
an active concept that must underpin everything we do.
When we remember Almighty Allah and try to please Him
in all of our daily affairs, Taqwa shall, thus, become a way
of life.
Qazaa Salaah
FARZ and WAAJIB Salaat performed AFTER it's time
has EXPIRED will be called QAZAA, E.G. If ASR
Salaat is performed at MAGHRIB time, it will be
QAZAA.
To DELAY any FARZ, WAJIB or SUNNATE
MUAKKADAH Salaat INTENTIONALLY
and cause them to become QAZAA is very SINFUL..
It is COMPULSORY upon every MUSLIM to perform
the missed number of Farz and Waajib Salaat since
the time one has become baaligh (reached the age of
PUBERTY).
Ramadhan is an ideal opportunity to start making up
for missed salaah.
The Niyyat of Qazaa Namaaz
When making the NIYYAT for QAZAA, It is necessary
to make Niyyah for the particular Namaaz missed.
If one has missed a number of Salaat, then one
should make Niyyah (intention) thus:
"I am performing such and such day's Fajr or Zuhr."
If a person has missed MORE than ONE Fajr or Zuhr,
it will NOT be sufficient to say:
"I am performing Qazaa for Fajr or Zuhr." One should
say: "I am performing such and such day's Fajr."
If one has missed so many Farz Salaat that one does
NOT remember the exact number of days when the
Salaat was missed, then the Niyyah should be made
as follows:
"Oh Allah! I am performing the FIRST or the FIRST
Zuhr Farz from those which I have missed."
Continue doing this until satisfied that all the missed
number of Salaat are performed.
