12.10 Organic Fertilizer
Agriculture is going through a major
transformation across the world and India is no
exception. Organic Agriculture has emerged as a
feasible option related to land degradation and
increasing contamination in food. Organic Manure /
Compost use in the fields help in producing food of
high nutritional value and reduce the health risks by
keeping harmful chemicals and pesticides out. It
also preserves long term fertility of the soil through
sustainable production system.
Your Society took initiative to co-market the
Compost made from City Garbage since December
2009. During the year 2010-2011, the Society Comarketed
about 17,350 MT of compost in 11 states
and plans to sell 30,000 MT during next financial year.
12.11 Bio-Fertilizers
Your Society initiated producing and marketing
five bacterial strains of Bio-fertilizers in three Plants
at Hazira (Gujarat), Lanjha (Maharashtra) and
Varanasi (U.P.) with combined capacity of 550 MT.
During the year 2010-2011, the Society produced
965 MT and sold 944 MT of 5 bacterial strains of
Bio-fertilizers i.e. Rhizobium, Azotobacter,
Acetobacter, Azospirillium and PSM (Phosphate
Solubilising Micro-organism). Initiative has also
been taken to produce liquid Bio-fertilizers in view
of meeting the need of increased shelf life for better
marketability and farmers benefit. The Society's
Bio-fertilizer Plants are ISO certified.
Your Society has been continuously promoting
the use of Bio-fertilizers by educating farmers and
making them aware about its benefits through various
promotional and educational programmes, which has
been duly recognized through awards by FAI.
