celle du flûtiste François Richard — un habitué du Festival<br />
International de Jazz de Montréal — et ses 12 musiciens, avec des<br />
pièces de son album Nouvel Orchestra, qui a fait l’unanimité de la<br />
critique, et ses nouvelles compositions. Mais on recevra également<br />
le New-Yorkais David Binney, un des saxophonistes de l’heure sur<br />
la scène internationale qu’on a pu apprécier en mai dernier à<br />
L’Astral, ainsi que le pianiste François Bourassa — un autre fidèle<br />
du Festival… avec 26 éditions ! —, au sein du Nouvel Orchestra.<br />
Bref, une mosaïque multicolore, à la fois moderne et romantique.<br />
It’s going to be a very busy night! Welcome flautist François<br />
Richard—a regular at the Festival International de Jazz à<br />
Montréal—and his 12 musicians, with pieces from his new<br />
album Nouvel Orchestra, a unanimous critical fave, along with<br />
some new compositions. However, keep the doors wide open<br />
for New Yorker David Binney, one of the saxophonists of the<br />
moment on the international scene, who played L’Astral this<br />
past May, as well as pianist François Bourassa—another<br />
Festival veteran… who has played 26 editions!—both of whom<br />
join in the Nouvel Orchestra. Yes, it’s a multicoloured musical<br />
mosaic, as modern as it is romantic.<br />
Portraits d’ici est une suite en huit mouvements écrite par<br />
Alexandre Côté. Chaque mouvement veut exprimer en musique<br />
les lieux, les paysages et les gens qui ont marqué, inspiré et touché<br />
le saxophoniste. Tantôt une région, un endroit précis, tantôt des<br />
contacts humains, des rencontres, qui l’ont accroché durant ses<br />
voyages. Portraits d’ici est écrit pour huit musiciens chevronnés<br />
— des fleurons du label québécois Effendi, comme Rémi Bolduc,<br />
Frank Lozano, Alain Bédard et John Roney — qui interpréteront à<br />
leur manière les « images » qui leur seront proposées.<br />
Portraits d’ici is a suite in eight movements written by<br />
Alexandre Côté. Each movement is a musical expression of<br />
the places, landscapes and people who have touched, inspired<br />
and left their mark on the saxophonist: a region, a specific<br />
location, a personal encounter that stuck with him during his<br />
travels. Portraits d’ici was written for eight veteran musicians—<br />
such jewels of the Québécois Effendi label as Rémi Bolduc,<br />
Frank Lozano, Alain Bédard and John Roney—who bring their<br />
individual musical voices to the “images” provided to them.<br />

Le superbe pianiste américain Brad Mehldau, un habitué du<br />
Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, a collaboré avec<br />
plusieurs grands musiciens de jazz. On pense à Pat Metheny,<br />
Wayne Shorter ou encore Michael Brecker. Cette fois, c’est avec<br />
l’une des plus grandes mezzos du monde, la Suédoise Anne Sofie<br />
Von Otter qu’il partagera la scène. Si la chanteuse a l’habitude<br />
de chanter Mozart, Berlioz, Strauss, Brahms ou Schubert, elle<br />
n’interprète pas moins de façon remarquable les œuvres du<br />
répertoire populaire du jazz. Un tandem unique à ne pas manquer !<br />
