2015 Mississippi Nurses’ Association Annual Convention FRIDAY JOINT SESSION SPEAKER Rebekah Gregory is a simple small town woman and mother whose life was forever changed due to the events of the Boston marathon bombings on April 15, 2013. This horrible act of terrorism left her as one of the names of the seventeen amputees and therefore permanently handicapped at the young age of only twenty-six years old. Instead of being bitter, Rebekah has used her platform in a huge way by encouraging others worldwide. Speaking out about her story and own daily obstacles, she believes that life’s struggles are not only meant to teach us lessons, but make us better versions of ourselves than before. Rebekah’s delivery with her quick wit and contagious optimism is sure to have everyone feeling inspired and ready to make their own life changes. Outlining her popular phrase, “with every new day comes new hope” she never fails to leave her audience ready to “change the world.” REBEKAH GREGORY Through The Eyes of The Patient FRIDAY APRN LUNCHEON SPEAKER Dr. Jean H. Aertker is serving her second term as the AANP Region 11 Director. Dr. Aertker was one of the original 20 charter members of AANP when it began in 1985 and has been active in her local and state NPs organizations. Involved in health policy at all levels, Dr. Aertker was one of the founding members of Florida Nurse Practitioner Network in 2002, serving as past president and continues to serve on the board. In 2008, Dr. Aertker received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University. She is a NP entrepreneur owning a successful NP Occupational Health practice since 1998. She is FNP board certified with over 32 years in that role. As a USAF Nurse Corp veteran, Dr. Aertker was first introduced to the role of the NP in 1974 and has since held many leadership roles in nursing and in the community. She feels the DNP is essential to moving our practice forward as we seek full rights and privileges to practice. JEAN H.
