tari hanno potuto rivivere un’atmosfera
d’altri tempi all’interno di un cantiere
dove, per la prima volta nella sua storia
recente, si è svolta una manifestazione di
scafi da competizione. Le tante barche da
corsa realizzate da Serafino Riva, infatti,
erano state tutte costruite nell’originario
piccolo cantiere nel centro di Sarnico
dove oggi sorge un altro edificio rivestito,
per l’occasione, con grandi gigantografie
d’epoca raffiguranti numerosi scafi da
corsa. In questo modo i tanti turisti hanno
potuto ammirare le attività cantieristiche
della Riva fino al 1954, anno nel quale il
cantierino si è trasferito nell’attuale sede.
Per un intero weekend le barche storiche
hanno avuto la meglio sulle meravigliose
barche da diporto, quasi 8000, prodotte
dal Cantiere Riva dal Dopoguerra a oggi.
Nonostante il caldo raggiungesse i 40
gradi, tutte le imbarcazioni si sono esibite
al meglio, ingaggiandosi nei rettilinei e,
soprattutto, nelle virate di un circuito
lungo circa 800 metri e capace di consentire
ai racer di raggiungere velocità di
oltre 90 chilometri orari (nei motoscafi da
corsa la velocità non si misura in nodi).
Ma la manifestazione è stata anche l’oc-

owners were able to relive the atmosphere
of years gone by in a yard where, for the
first time in the yard’s recent history, a
race boat exhibition was held. Serafino
Riva’s many designs were all built on
the first site of the yard in downtown
Sarnico, where today there now stands a
new building with an exhibition of large
format prints from dozens of period
images of the boats.
Here the numerous visitors were able
to appreciate the yard’s activities up
until 1954, when the yard moved to its
present day site. The historic craft had
the better of the almost 8,000 marvelous
pleasure craft produced by the Cantiere
Riva since the end of the War. Despite
the 40°c heat, the boats gave the best of
themselves, racing each other down the
straight line run, and even better, following
the curves of the 800 meter long
course at speeds of up to 90 kilometers
an hour (with race boats speed is not
measured in knots). The event was also
an occasion for almost all the existing
outboard race boats to come to Sarnico,
only those to difficult to move were left
behind.
