Asana is a Sanskrit word that means<br />

body posture. It is used to describe the<br />

position of your body. The founder of<br />

Ashtanga Yoga, Patanjali, defines asana<br />

as “Steady and comfortable posture”.<br />

A per tradition, many asanas<br />

are practiced in Hatha Yoga<br />

tradition, for achievement of<br />

better mental and physical<br />

health. Asanas have deep<br />

impact on complete body<br />

and mind complex. Different<br />

systems in the body are<br />

affected by asanas like<br />

respiratory, muscular,<br />

digestive, circulation,<br />

reproductive, endocrine,<br />

excretory, nervous system.<br />

Sitting Position is a yoga<br />

postures or asana in sitting<br />

position. This is the sitting<br />

position with both legs<br />

together and stretched, toes<br />

erect, spine erect and both<br />

hands straight and palms<br />

resting on the floor. There<br />

are many postures in sitting<br />

position like Dhyan Mudra,<br />

Hastashirasana, Sharanagata<br />

Mudra, Parvatasana,<br />

Paschimottanasana, Akarna<br />

Dhanurasana, Dattamudra,<br />

Garbhasana, Hansasana.<br />

Hastashirasana (The Hand to<br />

Pre position required for<br />

Hastashirasana is Sitting<br />

Position i.e. Vajrasana<br />

Procedure for<br />

Hastashirasana is after<br />

taking Vajrasana, bend<br />

forward in waist and place<br />

both the elbows on the<br />

ground with six to eight<br />

inches apart and ahead of<br />

knees with palms supporting<br />

head. In this posture relax<br />

all the muscles, continue<br />

normal breathing.<br />

This hasthashirasana is<br />

best to fight the effects<br />

of arthritis. Simple poses<br />

can aid in the affected<br />
