SESSION SIX
COMMUNION CONNECTS YOU
108 109
DAY 3 • READ HEBREWS 8:9:
“This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt.
They did not remain faithful to my covenant, so I turned my back on
them,” says the LORD.
RESPOND:
God was faithful to the covenant, but His people were not. In what
ways do you tend to be like the children of Israel, struggle to remain
faithful?
DAY 5 • READ HEBREWS 8:11-12:
“And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to
teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the LORD.’ For everyone,
from the least to the greatest, will know me already. And I will forgive
their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”
RESPOND:
What promises does this verse make? (You may want to look at the
entire passage that the writer of Hebrews is quoting here, which is
found in Jeremiah 31).
DAY 4 • READ HEBREWS 8:10:
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on
that day, says the LORD: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will
write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my
people.”
RESPOND:
What longings does God express in this verse? What surprises you
about the idea of God longing for you?
DAY 6 • READ HEBREWS 8:13:
When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the
first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.
RESPOND:
Why is the old covenant obsolete? How was Christ’s sacrifice on
the cross different from the old covenant’s system of sacrifices of
animals?
