After finishing the Sevens World Series
as runners up last season, the Blitzbokke
looked to defend their title in Dubai.
Injuries, suspensions and extra-time
knockouts; it’s hardly been Sevens Heaven
for the All Blacks Sevens so far this series.
They started supremely and didn’t drop a
match in pool play but came unstuck against
a very strong USA side in their Cup Quarter
Final. The South African boys rallied to win
the Plate Final though and continued their
winning streak on home soil where they
took out the tournament in Cape Town.
A major concern for the Blitzbokke will be
the injury losses of Cecil Afrika and a knee
injury to World Rugby Sevens Player of the
Year, Werner Kok. Getting these two stars
fit in time for the Wellington Sevens will be
huge as the team try to improve on their
third place finish in the capital last season.

The team have had it all to fight against but
with the two stalwarts DJ Forbes and Sir
Gordon Tietjens remaining constant, New
Zealand have managed to achieve seventh
place on the 2015/2016 World Series
standings. But for a team with twelve World
Series titles under their belts, the focus will
be on reaching the top spot once again.
A welcome break will see the All Black
Sevens regroup and recover as they look
to show their class and mettle on home
soil. We watched in Dubai, we watched in
Cape Town and now in Wellington, it’s our
chance to make our voices heard as we
cheer on our Wellington Sevens reigning
champions.
