Golden-point extra time is played in knockout matches when a match is tied and
a result is required. The first team to score ANY points is declared the winner.
After a team scores points, THIS team restarts play at halfway with a drop-kick.
The team that conceded the points receives the kick.
There are two extra match officials – an in-goal judge helps the referee with
game decisions and kicks at goal. Game decisions can be tries, touchdowns,
touch-in-goal. Game decisions can be tries, touchdowns, touch-in-goal and
foul play. The in-goal judge can only assist with decisions in-goal.
A conversion kick MUST be a drop-kick. A conversion must be taken within
30 seconds of a try being scored. During a conversion attempt, all opposition
players must assemble close to their own 10m line (near halfway). Therefore,
there is no opportunity to ‘charge down’ a conversion.
A scrum has only 3 players from each team in it, formed In one line as a
front row.
Penalty kicks and free kicks cannot be place-kicked. If a kicker wants to
attempt a penalty goal, the kick must be taken within 30 seconds of the penalty
being awarded.
Each team can have a maximum of 5 reserve players. A team may make up to a
maximum of five substitutions /replacements during a match.
