Showing a promising start to the World
Sevens Series, England achieved second
place in the opening leg of the World
Sevens Series in Dubai.
Although the English team had a strong
start to the World Series in Dubai, having
beaten Australia, USA and Argentina to be
unbeaten after pool play, the English team
fell short of a win against the current series
champions, Fiji, in the cup final.
With some tough competition in the second
leg of the series circuit in Cape Town,
England head to the Wellington Sevens
placed fifth in the World Series standings.
Past champions of the Wellington Sevens
tournament in 2013/2014 and 2008/2009,
the English lads will be rallying their team
to secure another win in the Wellington
tournament.
The Samoan team are not unfamiliar to
Sevens wins, claiming the crown in the
2009/2010 World Series and achieving
fourth in both 2011/2012 and 2012/2013.
However, the Manu Samoa Sevens are off
to a mixed start in the 2015/2016 Sevens
World Series. They finished seventh
in Dubai and, hit by injuries, the team
struggled to find their feet in the second leg
of the series circuit in Cape Town. Currently
ranking 11th, the Manu Samoa 7s will no
doubt be looking to up their game and get
some more wins under their belt as they
rally their team for the Wellington Sevens.
