Back roll
BACK ROLL - KE
Step 1: Look for the right take off
This is another trick where you
are going to need a nice solid
takeoff. Although it can be done
off flat water, it is much easier
off a chop or a small wave. Personally
I like to do them off a solid
chop but for a lot of people it
will probably be the easiest off
a small wave. I’d recommend
mixing it up and seeing what
works best for you.
Step 2: Take off
Approach the ramp with speed
with your kite around 10 or
11 o’clock. Put your back hand
in the middle of the bar with
your index finger and your middle
finger either size of the depower
line. Because only your
back hand is going to remain
on the bar, the kite will naturally
want to turn up once you start
the rotation so you need to try
minimize this as much as possible.
Edge hard and stomp on
your back foot while pulling the
bar in to get as much height as
possible.
Step 3: Start the rotation
As you leave the water take
your front hand off the bar and
throw your arm behind you while
looking over your front shoulder
to start the rotation. Bring
your front knee up and try to
bring your board up almost
above your head while trying to
keep your legs fairly straight for
the first part of the rotation. For
this trick, try and keep the board
on as much of a vertical axis
as possible
Step 4: Finishing the rotation
As you bring the board around,
focus on keeping the board on
a vertical axis throughout the
rotation as this allows for the
most contact to the wind. Slowly
bring your knees into your chest
through the middle part of the
