Some days feel like they were
doomed from the beginning.
Sometimes they are, but that
should never stop you from
trying. Often times it’s only
after it’s all said and done that
you see it all happened for a
reason. Any day out at Jaws is
bound to be wild.The forecast
for December 9th looked really
big and I felt like we were going
to have a crazy day, but I really
had no idea how crazy. Looking
at the off shore buoys we knew
it was going to be good, so we
got up and ready to rock in the
morning. We went down to the
cliff and the waves weren’t really
there yet but I could feel they
were coming. So Patri Mclaughlin,
Ryan Toaspern and I got
ready to go out!
Everything was going smooth
until we got half way there on
the jet ski and all of a sudden
“brapppp brappppp braaaaaa
braaa braaaap……..” The ski
made some crazy sounds and
lost all power. We could see
Niccolo Porcella’s kite in the air
up ahead on a wave at Jaws but
we had to turn around—so bummed—but
we had no other choice.
We couldn’t figure out what
was wrong on the water so we
idled back to the boat ramp a
bit relived that we didn’t have to
swim the ski in. We then called
the day off. We had seen a few
other jet skis break that day,
and a boat flipped too. The day
just had a destructive energy in
the air and Jaws isn’t something
that you can force.
I still wanted to fix the ski so
we took it to the mechanic. Funny
enough, he looks at it, plays
with a spark plug cable and in
about 30 seconds says it’s good
you’re ready to rock. That’s
