Appleby: Paving the way for
young Caymanian Lawyers
Appleby has a long history of supporting young Caymanian lawyers through its Legal
Scholarship Programme, which is one of the longest running programmes of its kind
in the Cayman Islands. We support law students by covering the cost of tuition,
examination fees and textbooks required for study, as well as a living allowance for
students studying abroad, and eight weeks’ work experience each summer.
With 50 years in the industry, Appleby (Cayman) prides itself on having an
internationally recognised presence in the legal industry while maintaining its
commitment to the community of the Cayman Islands through charitable giving and the
sponsorship of Caymanian students pursuing a career in law. Over the last six years, the
firm has granted over one million dollars to the education of 18 local students through
its Legal Scholarship Programme, allowing them opportunities to study at the Cayman
Islands Law School or at overseas universities. Fifteen of those students have since
been called to the Cayman Islands Bar, and an additional four students are currently
sponsored by the firm and are at different phases of their study.
We certainly look forward to this year’s scholarship drive and to giving additional young
people a chance to pursue studies in the legal field.
