Chynna Retumban, recipient of the 2014/2015 Water Authority Scholarship,
is interviewed by Cayman27 while interning in the Authority’s laboratory.
Most people are familiar with the first aspect of Water
Authority – Cayman’s mission statement: To provide pure,
wholesome and affordable drinking water to the entire
population of the Cayman Islands. But did you know that the
Authority is also responsible for protecting and developing the
Cayman Islands’ groundwater resources? Or that the Authority
also provides for the collection, treatment and disposal of
sewage in the Cayman Islands?
Every year, the Authority offers a scholarship of up to
CI$30,000 to a suitably qualified Caymanian to obtain an
undergraduate academic or technical/vocational degree or
diploma in a field of study relevant to the Authority’s work.
Fields of study that are particularly relevant include:
Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil
Engineering, Hydrogeology, Mechanical Engineering,
Wastewater Treatment, Water Resource/Supply Management,
Reverse Osmosis Technology, Information Technology,
Accounting, Finance, and Business Management. So, whether
you see yourself in a lab coat or a hardhat, working in the field
or at a desk, the Authority has a career path for you!

have successfully transitioned into full-time Water Authority
staff following the completion of their studies.
The Authority also encourages students and recent graduates

variety of careers available in the water and wastewater utilities
