6.1 Basic 2-D Plots 183 6.1.6 Specialized 2-D plots There are many specialized graphics functions for 2-D plotting. They are used as alternatives to the plot command we have just discussed. There is a whole suite of ez plotter functions, such as ezplot , ezpolar , ezcontour, that are truly easy to use. See Section 3.8 for a discussion and examples of these functions. Here, we provide a list of other functions commonly used for plotting x-y data: area bar barh comet compass contour contour£ error bar feather fill fplot hist loglog pareto pcolor pie plotyy plotmatrix polar quiver rose scatter semilogx semilogy stairs stem creates a filled area plot, creates a bar graph, creates a horizontal bar graph, makes an animated 2-D plot, creates arrow graph for complex numbers, makes contour plots, makes filled contour plots, plots a graph and puts error bars, makes a feather plot, draws filled polygons of specified color, plots a function of a single variable, makes histograms, creates plot with log scale on both the x-axis and the y-axis, makes pareto plots, makes pseudocolor plot of a matrix, creates a pie chart, makes a double y-axis plot, makes a scatter plot of a matrix, plots curves in polar coordinates, plots vector fields, makes angled histograms, creates a scatter plot, makes semilog plot with log scale on the x-axis , makes semilog plot with log scale on the y-axis, plots a stair graph, and plots a stem graph. On the following pages, we show examples of these functions. The commands shown in the middle column produce the plots shown in the right c.olumn. There are several ways you can use these graphics functions and many of them take optional arguments. The following examples should give you a basic idea of how to use these functions and what kind of plot to expect from them. For more information on any of these functions, !';ee the on-line help.
