FUNDING Social Isolation and Loneliness Fund 2016 - 17 Opens for applications Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) has announced the launch of the new Social Isolation and Loneliness Fund (SIALF) on behalf of the Scottish Government. The aim of the £500,000 one-year Fund is to support community-based projects tackling social isolation. Grants of up to £20,000 are available to voluntary and community group for projects that achieve at least one of the following outcomes: an increase in social connectedness of people experiencing disadvantage; and a reduction in the effects of social isolation in people experiencing disadvantage. The deadline for applications is the 20th May 2016. Funded projects will be delivered between July 2016 and June 2017, by which time all activities should be concluded and all grant money spent. http://www.voluntaryactionfund.org.uk/funding-and-support/social-isolation-and-loneliness-fund/ Tesco Community Groups: Apply for a Bags of Help grant We will award grants each year in around 400 Tesco regions to make sure the funding is spread evenly across England, Wales and Scotland. In total the Bags of Help programme will support thousands of projects each year. Because we’re expecting there to be a major demand for grants, Groundwork will assess all of the applications received and then provide a shortlist of the applications received for a Tesco Shortlisting panel to agree three successful projects to forward to a vote in Tesco stores. Tesco customers will vote over two weekends in their store for their favourite shortlisted local project. Grants will then be awarded as follows: 1st place in Tesco customer vote: £12,000 grant 2nd place in Tesco customer vote: £10,000 grant 3rd place in Tesco customer vote: £8,000 grant http://www.groundwork.org.uk/Sites/tescocommunityscheme/pages/large-grants-tes Help the Homeless Accepting Applications for Summer Round Help the Homeless, a registered charity, is currently accepting applications from small and medium-sized UK registered charities with a turnover of less than £1 million per year. Help the Homeless provides a grant scheme to support small and medium-sized UK charities that work to help homeless people rebuild their lives, re-enter society and live a normal life. Funding is targeted at projects to find practical ways to help disadvantaged individuals return to the community through training or residential facility provision, rather than merely providing short term shelter. Small and medium-sized registered charities with a turnover of under £1 million per annum can apply for grants of up to £5,000. The scheme will principally fund capital costs, but may consider revenue costs if necessary to the project. Projects must assist individuals in their return to mainstream society, rather than simply offering shelter or other forms of sustenance. Applications are considered four times a year. FUNDING BBC Children in Need Grants Programme is Open to Applications (UK) BBC Children in Need is currently accepting applications from charities and not-for-profit organisations in the UK that support children and young people who are 18 years and younger. Small grants and Large grants are available to not-for-profit organisations in the UK that are supporting children and young people of 18 years and under who are experiencing disadvantage through: • Illness, distress, abuse or neglect. • Any kind of disability. • Behavioural or psychological difficulties. • Living in poverty or situations of deprivation. • Organisations must be working to combat this disadvantage and to make a real difference to children and young people’s lives. To be eligible, projects should: • Take the initiative and show clearly how they will make a difference in children and young people’s lives. • Address the challenges the children and young people face, build their skills and resilience, empower them and extend their choices in life. • Involve children and young people in the design, delivery and evaluation of their work. • Be keen to keep learning about their work so that their ability to make a difference in children and young people’s lives can keep on improving. Applications can be made for either of the following: • Main Grants of over £10,000 can support projects for up to three years. There is no upper limit but very few grants over £100,000 are made and most grants are for much less. • Small Grants of up to £10,000 can support projects for one year. The grants are to be used for direct project costs that relate clearly and directly to a project. These can include salaries, volunteer expenses, building hire costs and travel costs. In many cases project costs also include less delivery-focused aspects such as line management, administration, insurance and utilities. Match funding is not required. The deadlines for Small Grant applications are 1 June, 1 September, and 1 December 2016. The deadlines for Main Grant applications are 15 May and 15 September 2016. More information New Ufi Funding digital solutions for vocational learning The Ufi Charitable Trust (Ufi), which aim is to help improve vocational skills in the UK’s workforce by funding digital solutions for vocational learning, has announced that its funding scheme is open for applications. Registered charities, community interest companies, social enterprises, not for profits, companies, community associations, FE colleges and public bodies can apply for projects focused on adult and vocational learning using technology. Eligible applicants can apply for support for 2 projects at a time and Ufi envisages investing in a wide range of projects from amounts as low as £2,500 to others in excess of £250,000. Match funding is not required but for projects over £100,000, however, having other investment would up the chances of success. The focus is to develop scale through technology rather than specific devices, Ufi is looking to fund projects for networks and mechanisms that have mass penetration. The closing date for stage 1 applications is the 12th May 2016.
