5.4.6 Child Related Programs<br />

A number of line agencies especially MoWCSW, Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development,<br />

CCWB including I/NGOs have been carrying out child protection related programs across the<br />

country. In this connection, District Child Protection Committees have been formed in all 75 districts<br />

and Municipal Child Protection Committees have been formed in 27 Municipalities and Village Child<br />

Protection Committees have been formed in 1,661 VDCs by the end of first eight months of FY<br />

2014/15.<br />

As shown in Table 5.11, there has been greater expansion of child clubs in the country especially<br />

after the Supreme Court Order on August 9, 2001 to ensure the rights of the children for<br />

organization. The CCWB issued the Guideline for Child Participation 2005 and make it provision to<br />

affiliate the child clubs in the DCWB. Child clubs create the awareness among community and<br />

children themselves. They carry out campaign for birth registration, school enrolment, reduction of<br />

child labor, increase child participation program, campaign for child immunization, promotion and<br />

propaganda of free education, awareness on rights of education in the fearless situation, programs<br />

related to improvement in environment, parents awareness raising program and campaign against<br />

child marriage.<br />

Child Helpline (1098) – The MoWCSW, Nepal Telecom and Nepal Telecommunications Corporation<br />

all jointly own the Child Helpline with its toll free number 1098. Child Helpline has been in operation<br />

in 12 districts in the country but they cover a wide range of districts. In FY 2013/14, six organizations<br />

operated Child Helpline and provided different services to 4,830 children. The key services provided<br />

were psychosocial counseling, emergency rescue, health treatment, family reunion, legal support,<br />

prevent from trafficking and from child marriage (Table 5.12).<br />
