Possession of camouflage uniform resembling
that of the Antigua and Barbuda
Defence Force and, possession of an imitation
firearm for which he is unable to provide
satisfactory reasons for the possession were
the charges upon which 45 year-old Alphonso
Richardson alias “Panic” was brought before
Chief Magistrate Jo-Ann Walsh at the District
‘A’ Court yesterday.
The items believed to have been used in
the commission of crimes were found in the
number 19 booth, of the Vegetable Market located
on Market Street, which is rented to the
defendant as he plies his trade as a vendor at
the said market.
The court heard that on Friday April 22,
2016 at about 06:20pm the items were discovered
after officers from the Criminal Investigations
Department went in search of
Richardson having received information that
he has a firearm in his possession.
Richardson was ordered to open the padlocks
on his booth as well as that of a trolley
which was secured to it. Search of the trolley
revealed one camouflage jacket paired with
pants, an imitation gun, a pair of Timberland
boots, and a tam with eyes and mouth cut
outs.
During the search of the booth officers
found one pair of binoculars, a pair of men’s
shoe and a black hoodie.
He was asked to whom do the items belong;
he reportedly responded “Officer the
things you find inside the booth belong to me.
I don’t know who the other things in the trolley
belong to”.
As a result he was arrested on suspicion
of robbery, taken into custody and given the
mentioned charges.
In court, Richardson pleaded guilty to
both charges. He told the court that he found
the firearm and put it in the stall, he further
admitted that he is the owner of the other
items but stated that he is not into crime.
signaled to pull over but in
an attempt to evade the lawmen
he sped past, in the process
his vehicle came into
harsh contact with the sidewalk
and scarcely avoided
as the road is narrow.
The officers were forced
to turn around and give
chase and minutes later
the community following the
demise of the West Side Serenaders
and Red Army. Some
of his early lieutenants who
assisted him included Penrod
Since then the band has
achieved several accomplishments
and is widely regarded
as one of the leaders
A world according to Trump
Donald Trump’s Foreign Policy
speech on April 27 did not once mention
the Caribbean. The Caribbean
should be grateful or there might have
been a price tag for his attention. He
did say, after all, that: “The countries
we are defending must pay for the cost
of this defense – and, if not, the US
must be prepared to let these countries
defend themselves.” Whew!
And, he was talking about US
friends in the North Atlantic Treaty
Organisation (NATO) such as Britain,
France and Germany. In the same
breath in which he said these countries
would have to pay the US for defending
them, he also said: “America is
going to be a reliable friend and ally
again”. It seems, therefore, that in a
Trump-America, there is a dollar tag
for the US to be a “reliable friend and
ally”.
It’s a shame that he did not say anything,
in his much vaunted Foreign
Policy speech, about Latin America except
for a reference to the Presidential
plane, Airforce One, being “disrespected”
in Cuba. The regret about his not
talking about Latin America is that we
still don’t know how his now notorious
“wall” between the US and Mexico
will be built and how he expects Mexico
to pay for it.
The truth is that Trump’s speech
was a jumbled text obviously written
in part by persons trying desperately to
set out a real foreign policy and Trumpisms.
Trumpisms won the day causing
any sensible thoughts to perish. Witness,
for instance, the perfectly sensible
statement that: “The world must know
that we do not go abroad in search of
enemies, that we are always happy
when old enemies become friends, and
when old friends become allies”. And,
contrast it with the Trumpism: “Some
groups will never be anything but our
enemies”. Those groups, alas, appear
destined to always be enemies and
spits in the face of the speechwriter’s
attempts to make “friends” of “old enemies”.
What was significant about this
speech is that Trump read it from a
teleprompter -something that he frequently
mocked Hillary Clinton for
doing. Anyone, who has endured
the constant Television coverage of
Trump’s town hall meetings and his
participation in the so-called Republican
debates for the party’s Presidential
nominee, knows that his thoughts
are unconnected and his vocabulary is
limited. He could not speak the more
erudite passages in the text written by
a scriptwriter. Apart from the obvious
Trumpisms, which he really means, the
rest of the text was merely obligatory –
something he had to say to show that he
has some kind of foreign policy.
Here’s an example of the speechwriter
as against Trumpism; the speechwriter’s
words in arguing for a more
transparent and principled approach to
foreign policy were: “The best way to
achieve those goals is through a disciplined,
deliberate and consistent foreign
policy”; and here is the Trumpism:
“We have to be unpredictable and we
have to be unpredictable starting now”.
The two ideas contradict each other.
Contradiction and inconsistency
were the hallmarks of Trump’s foreign
policy speech which could have left
no one with any sense that, should he
make it to the White House, the world
will be a safe place. That sense of alarm
was summed-up in this sentence: “We
will no longer surrender this country,
or its people, to the false song of globalism.”.
In other words, multilateral
approaches through organisations, such
as the United Nations and the Security
Council, are “false”; unilateralism and
By Sir Ronald Sanders
an all-powerful US that bends the world
to its will is the chosen Trump-path, reflected
in the telling declaration: “We
will spend what we need to rebuild
our military. It is the cheapest investment
we can make. We will develop,
build and purchase the best equipment
known to mankind. Our military dominance
must be unquestioned”.
And he showed his contempt for the
notion of global warming when he attacked
Barack Obama’s military policy
and threw in the scornful observation:
“Our military is depleted, and we’re
asking our generals and military leaders
to worry about global warming”.
That, incidentally, was the only reference
to climate change which threatens
the existence of small island states such
as those in the Caribbean.
The speech was much more an assault
on the policies of the present
Obama administration than it was a
description of a credible foreign policy
for the most powerful and pervasive
nation on the planet. At the end of the
speech, we knew less about where a
Trump Presidency would take America
and the world than we knew from his
many outrageous statements before it.
And, those statements included: building
a wall to keep out Mexican rapists;
banning Muslims from entering
The Wixard joins local talent for EP release
By Justin Peters
Antigua and Barbuda will
experience the next generation
of Reggae Royalty tonight
at Abacadabra in English
Harbour.
THE WIXARD, born
Nastassja Hammond and
daughter of reggae giant
Beres Hammond, is one of
the hottest producers, singers/songwriters
out of Jamaica.
She can only be described
as one of a kind as
she transcends genres with
her unique sound.
She started singing to harmonies
in her father’s studio
at the tender age of 10 years
old. A self-taught musician,
she would go on to to sharpen
her skills at the Edna Manley
School of Music as a drum
major for a year.
The Wixard, along with
DJ Inferno and Chedda – The
Medalist, both also out of Jamaica
will join local musical
sensations Caludette CP Peters,
Asher Otto, Drastic and
many more for the Shake Di
Ground! EP Release Party.
The Amazing EP was co-produced
by The Wixard and
Antigua’s Chosen Sounds
and will be the shine of the
last party before the Antigua
Sailing Week Dockyard Day
bring the world famous week
of activities to a close.
At the age of 17, The
Wizard’s production and
songwriting skills caught the
ear of her cousin, reggae star
Courtney John, who was so
intrigued by what he heard
that he immediately started
mentoring and working with
her.
The Wizard has produced
and remixed for superstars
Nelly Furtado, Michael Franti,
and Fefe Dobson, as well
as many of reggae’s greats
such as Beenie Man &
Marcia Griffiths.
2011 was a major year for
the 24-year old triple threat,
she scored and produced 26
songs for Season 2 of the
Caribbean’s number 1 dance
show IN THE DANCE as
well as having the show’s
top dance track “Watch It”
synced to MTV’s Top rated
TV show The Jersey Shore.
The Wizard co-wrote
and produced seven tracks
for Canadian pop star Kreesha
Turner’s sophomore
album Tropic Electric, and
was the only female producer
featured on superstar PauliaRubio’s
Latin Billboard
number 1 album Brava.
The Wizard is currently
working on her project as a
solo artist. Her 1 st Official
single LIKE A PRO, with
Nyanda (from Brick & Lace)
and Chedda has become a
viral sensation with over
11 million combined views
on YouTube and more than
50 choreographed videos.
She followed that with
the club anthem “Mash It
to make America great again; forcing
China, India, Japan and Vietnam not
to compete in trade with the US; carpet
bombing and water boarding enemies
such as ISIS.
His speech did have a ring of authoritarianism
about it for everyone,
including the business community of
America. The impression of autocracy
was encapsulated in the following
statement: “NAFTA (the North America
Free Trade Agreement between
the US, Canada and Mexico), as an
example, has been a total disaster for
the U.S. and has emptied our states of
our manufacturing and our jobs. Never
again. Only the reverse will happen.
We will keep our jobs and bring in new
ones. There will be consequences for
companies that leave the U.S. only to
The Kemist, Nyanda, Kat
Dahlia and Black Lion and
also scored the prolific reggae
track “Wadada” for Jesse
Royal.
The Wizard officially
released her debut EP
“Nuh Behaviour Episode
1” on May 12, 2015 , a
tropical/EDM/ high energy
blend which features hot new
DJs The Kemist and Kuddedieren
as well as Kreesha
Turner and Reggae stars
Mr Lexx and Cherine Anderson.
exploit it later”. It seems, businesses
will have to conform to the dictates of a
Trump government; their freedom will
be constrained and failure to comply
will have untold consequences. America
will be a different place if this comes
to pass; so will be the world.
Carnival 2016 begins in April!
By Justin Peters
As Antigua and Barbuda
gears up for the 60 th Anniversary
of Carnival, Nelson’s
Dockyard parking lot was
transformed into Carnival City
this past Wednesday when the
Antigua and Barbuda Festivals
Commission made history
by launching the Caribbean’s
Greatest Summer Festival
for the first time during the
Antigua Sailing Week festivities
in April.
The national youth choir
opened up the festivities with
a lovely rendition of the national
anthem of Antigua and
Barbuda. The cultural dance
that would follow was a fusion
of color and movement
that was too good to miss.
Chairman of the Antigua
and Barbuda Festivals Commission
welcomed one and all
the come back in July to enjoy
the full effect of Antigua’s
Carnival.
It wasn’t long before Emcee
Sly the Chief Rocker J was
delivering comedic tales of
his youthful life experiences
and how the Carnival culture
shaped and molded him as a
youngster. Calypso legends
the Mighty King Swallow,
the dynamic King Obstinate,
and the melodic Calypso Joe
graced the stage and the crowd
went wild as they performed
their “old-time” calypso as
only the three musical giants
could do it.
Junior Calypso Champion
baby eve showed off her musical
prowess on the stage letting
the world know that she
was proudly following in the
footsteps of her mother “Eve”
who is also a noted female
calypsonian. Pan master Ladoo
Samuel delivered a sweet
performance on an instrument
that is indigenous to Antigua
and Barbuda and widely used
around the Caribbean and the
reigning Miss Jaycees Caribbean
queen, Miss Sharissa
Ryan of Montserrat blew the
crowd away with a musical
rendition on her violin.
As the show shifted into
high gear, Mad-T-Guans,
MNM Music, Junior Ram-
pler, Ricardo Drue and the
Soca Diva, Claudette CP Peters
who celebrated her 16 th
year in the Soca business this
year brought the “new” energy
and the crowd gathered in the
parking lot moved closer to
the stage to jam into the next
morning. Even the reigning
Miss Antigua 2015, Ms. Asha
Frank showed us just how
much she could “wuk up” as
Claudette Peters declared her
a true Caribbean Queen.
Fireworks provided the
necessary intermission for the
Original Burning Flames to
set the stage for the rest of the
night. As always they gave a
memorable experience that
surely left those in attendance
wanting more Soca and more
Carnival. But, we will all have
to wait for July 27 th – August
2 nd , 2016 when Carnival City
will appear once again at the
Antigua Recreation Grounds
and people from all over the
world will come together in
unison to enjoy the only Festival
of its kind in the world.
PM Skerrit hints at relocating
Douglas Charles Airport
ROSEAU - Prime Minister
Roosevelt Skerrit has
hinted the government’s intention
to relocate the Douglas-Charles
Airport to a safer
location. The airport, located
in Melville Hall, has suffered
from floodwaters in recent
times.
“Clearly, we have to address
the issue of the airport
and the location of the airport
because while we will build
the retainer walls, where we
will mitigate against any potential
hazards, we have to
look at a new and safer site
for our airport,” Skerrit said
on Kairi’s Heng Program recently.
BASSETERRE - Over the years,
and even before the birth of CARICOM,
Guyana and St. Kitts and Nevis have been
enjoying fruitful relations and the government
of the South American country
is now endeavoring to further strengthen
bilateral ties.
Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs,
the Hon. Carl Greenidge told media representatives
at the recently concluded
ECLAC meeting held in St. Kitts that his
government would be looking intently
at past relationships and uses them as a
launching pad for future development.
The Minister pointed to the movement
of skilled labour in the past as part
of the bilateral relationship that exists between
the two countries. Going forward,
the South American nation would be
looking at several areas of interest where
trade and other relations can be fostered.
“There are opportunities I think for
cooperation on a variety of fronts that
“And, this is a firm commitment
on the government’s
behalf.” During the passage
of Tropical Storm Erika, last
year, the Melville Hall River,
causing every piece of equipment
at the facility to be destroyed,
flooded the airport.
The fencing, runway, taxiway,
apron, and access roads
were also damaged. The government
said the airport suffered
damages in excess of
$41-million. On March 15,
the airport was again flooded
due to heavy rains.
Meantime, the Prime Minister
pledged the government’s
support for the construction of
a much talked-about international
airport on the island.
However, he stated that the
government is incapable of
funding the venture by itself.
“We’ve never been opposed
to an international airport,” he
said.
“We’ve always articulated
our support for the international
airport; but, we’ve
always put a caveat on our
support for the international
airport by saying that it would
be impossible for the government,
on its own, to finance
the airport.”
Skerrit hinted that the government
has been exploring
different avenues to achieve
the venture. “And, this is why
have fallen away; the sharing of expertise,
access to markets and the likes. And
so we would be taking up with St. Kitts
and Nevis what the possibilities are,”
Greenidge said.
The Minister also told the media that
Guyana could partner with the sharing of
artifacts to further boost the Federation’s
booming tourism industry.
“You have a vibrant tourism industry
and we can look at the supply more carefully
of artifacts and materials. Guyana
has a very large indigenous community, a
we’ve been looking at different
mechanisms towards the
realization of the international
airport; and, we are pursuing
those opportunities,” he explained.
“And once we are
in a position to report to you
firmly, then we will report
back to you firmly.” Stated
PM Skerrit. (Dominica News
Online).
Guyana to build on bilateral relations with SKN
vibrant community, the only one that has
grown continually since 19th Century.”
Guyanese, like many others from
CARICOM member states, have utilized
the free movement under the Caribbean
Single Market and Economy (CSME),
which has allowed for professionals to
move throughout the region, while business
owners can establish entities within
the region as well.
Greenidge noted that in the long term
Guyana’s market is open to the Federation,
pointing out that when an airline
arrangement is in place, the two countries
could work towards an arrangement
within the tourism sector that would benefit
both nations. The Federation is part
of a partial scope agreement with both
Guyana and Brazil that would allow for
the movement of goods from St. Kitts
and Nevis into the Portuguese-speaking
South American market without a heavy
tariffs. (SKNVibes).

Air strikes on Aleppo hospital
BEIRUT - Air strikes destroyed a
the work of the Syrian government.
The city of Aleppo is at the center
of a military escalation that has undermined
peace talks in Geneva aimed
at ending the five-year-old war. U.N.
the presidents of the United States and
Russia to intervene to salvage a ceasefire
that was “barely alive”.
The truce is intended to allow an
police officers have been injured,
three of them seriously,
More than 100 protesters
were arrested as tens of
thousands gathered on the
Interior Minister Bernard
Thursday’s Crossword Solution
HOROSCOPE
ARIES (March 21-April 19).
The mild degree of weariness
you may be feeling today is
best described by the French
word “ennui.” Luckily, all it
will take is one interesting
conversation to change all of
that.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20).
You’ve great social foresight
— you know when two people
simply must meet and you
make the introduction. The
world will be forever altered
because of the people you
bring together.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21).
What if you were just as likely
to succeed in a small matter as
you were in a big one? What
problem would you try to tackle
in that case? Focus there because
truly, the scale of things
matters less than it logically
should.
CANCER (June 22-July 22).
Your understanding of human
motivation and behavior will
save you from a hassle — that
is if you act on your social
instinct. There’s no room for
self-doubt. Move forward in
confidence!
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Just
because you can enjoy a comfortable
silence with someone
you’re close to doesn’t mean
you should do it too often. It
would be pretty easy to stop
trying to break new conversational
ground. You’re too
charming to let this happen.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21).
One relationship stands out
from the rest today, either because
it needs special attention
or because it brings such fullness
and joy to your world that
you can’t help but focus on it.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec.
21). The human condition can
be so tragic. Because you’re
willing and able to fully connect
with your fellow human
beings, you get your heart
broken on a regular basis. It’s
beautiful though. You wouldn’t
have it any other way.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan.
19). You could keep on asking
questions forever, but nothing
would get done. This is a time
to stand in what you know and
deliver results based on that
for a while. Revisions can be
made further down the line.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Due
to variables out of your control,
it’s likely that you won’t
be able to adhere to the schedule.
You can, however, keep to
an order of events. That’s the
way to clarity and productivity.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22).
There’s a great potential to
waste money and an equal potential
to strike a rather heroic
deal. So before you buy what
you need, ask around. Chances
are that a friend, neighbor
or family member has one you
can borrow.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.
18). There have been times
when you thought you were
destined to always be the one
who loves more, sacrifices
greater and maximizes whatever
small returns come of
that. It turns out that’s not true.
Prepare for huge love.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20).
The day may include a tedious
errand or a nasty bit of work,
but none of it seems so bad
because you’ve a song in your
heart and a very intriguing
project or person to spend your
leisure time with later.

Permanent Mission of Italy
to the United Nations stated:
“as recognized by Agenda
2030, sport has always
been an important driver of
peace and development for
nations. Football, in particular,
is a universal sport that
is played in every corner of
the globe and for decades
has never ceased to attract
and excite fans. Its simplicity
makes it one of the most
widespread and democratic
sports - cutting across classes
of every population, while
its positive social impact can
be seen as early as in elementary
school years.
“Football is Italy’s national
sport, of which we
are very proud – especially
considering that Italy and
Germany are the only two
countries in the world to
have won the World Cup
four times, beyond the many
international successes of
Italian football clubs.
“For CARICOM countries,
football is one of the
sports most passionately
followed, with a particular
interest in European championships,
and national Caribbean
teams are regularly
represented in international
competitions.
“For these reasons, the
Permanent Mission of Italy
to the United Nations and
the National Italian Olympic
Committee (CONI) have
launched a joint, regional
initiative, in cooperation
with the Permanent Missions
of Antigua and Barbuda
and of Saint Vincent and
the Grenadines. Drawing on
the experience and professionalism
of Italian coaches,
this initiative can contribute
to further enhancing the
football skills of the national
teams of CARICOM countries.”
The first of two the workshops
will be held on May 2
for the coaches from Guyana,
St. Lucia, Suriname,
Trinidad & Tobago and the
Willikies Titans upset Generation
Next FC in Youth League action
An energized and perennially improving
Willikies Titans U- 11 team
stunned a flat-footed Generation Next
FC-A side 4-2 when both sides met last
Saturday in the Gomez/Netherlands Insurance
Youth Football League.
The victory saw Willikies jump
from seventh to third in the point standing
with 22 points. The Generation
Next squad maintained their lead, but
with less luster, and are tied at the top
with defending champions Villa Lions
with 28 points, although Generation
Next have a better goal differential.
The Generation Next U-13 players
also had a bad day at the office, going
under to Rangers FC 2- 0 in a match
they fully well expected to win. But
Rangers’ coach Larry Michael noted
that his team is improving and aiming
to avenge all first-round losses.
By Carlena Knight
A number of horses and
racers will travel over to
the sister isle of Barbuda,
next month.
The win was a matter of trading
places for the teams. Rangers slid into
a distant third from fifth in the rankings
with 19 points and Generation Next
slipped to fifth from third with 17. Villa
Lions, with 30, are in position to retain
their title. Newcomers New Generation
This move is a result
of the upcoming Whit
weekend meet which will
be held in the capital of
The meet is scheduled
for May 15 th and will not
With just five more weeks left,
Youth League Chief Operations Micah
league is meeting the objectives.
“It’s going fine, I’d even use great.
Most of the kids know exactly what the
league is about (participation, development
and enjoyment), and the team
leaders are very supportive. I also must
commend the parents who come out
every Saturday, not just to support their
children, but all of the players,” Samuel
said.
Samuel, a one-time star player and
long-time football administrator, also
referenced the marked development of
the clubs and some individual players.
“Teams like Villa Lions and New
Generation are exceptional,” he said,
and we have several other teams holding
their own nicely.
Antiguan horses to take part in Barbuda meet
stated that ‘despite the
hosting of the second leg of
the triple crown series that
same weekend in Antigua,
a contingent will still support
Leeward Islands Youth Championships hang in the balance
By Vanroy Burnes
The 2016 Leeward Islands
Youth Athletics
Championships slated for
the end of July hangs in the
balance and could face possible
postponement.
The revelation comes as
the President of the Antigua
& Barbuda Athletics Association
Everton ‘Mano’ Cornelius
said the body has limited
financial resources and
would not be able to sustain
the number of participants
expected for the event.
According to the Athletics
head, at least 225 to
250 athletes and officials are
expected here in Antigua &
Barbuda and proper accommodation
for them is a real
challenge.
He noted however that
by the end of April or the
middle of May, some organizations
can come forward
to say that they will assist
with the accommodations
Cornelius who earlier
this week announced that he
will challenge for the NOC
Presidency slated for early
next year ,said he is still
hoping for some positive
news as it relates to accommodations
in the soonest
possible time.
Athletes from all the
Leeward Islands are expected
to take part in the event.
Barbuda Race Meet to attract Antiguan Horses
By Vanroy Burnes
The Barbuda race meet which is part of
the Barbuda Caribana Festival celebrations
President of the Antigua Turf Club Neil
Jockeys will travel to the sister island to
compete in the Whit weekend race meet.
However although not given a specific number
of horses, it will be downsized from what
was originally expected.
The Turf Club boss noted that of the horses
which was bred here in Antigua will be
making their debut during the Barbuda meet,
he also noted that the Barbudan guys have
purchased a couple of horses from Antigua.
The Antigua Turf Club was force to postpone
J11s, Sleeper which was top boat of the
class today with a win and a second.
Sleeper is just four points off the lead.
Racing in the Bareboat classes was
incredibly close today. In Bareboat 1,
Hans-Robert Nitsche’s KH+P Bavastro
leads the class. Frits Janssen’s Team
Kadans from the Royal Southern Yacht
Club, Hamble, UK made the podium
today, taking third in Race 7 and Richard
Gie’s Cape Stormers from the Royal
Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town, South
Africa had their best day yet, scoring
two second places. Francois Kunz’ s
Swiss team racing Lascaris is in second
place, just a point ahead of Craig
Sutherland’s Xeres, also from the Royal
Cape Yacht Club.
Bareboat 2 and Bareboat 3 are going
to the wire. Herbert Muenzel’s
German team racing KH+P Cayenne
leads Bareboat 2 by a single point from
Thomas Mueller’s Swiss team racing
Sea You Later. In Bareboat 3, Eric
Stallings Booty Fish Racing Team from
Atlanta Georgia is just a point ahead of
Gillioz Vincent’s Swiss team racing
Mau Bisa 1. In Bareboat 4, Mario Bakker’s
Dutch team, Hatse Flatse scored
its sixth straight bullet to win the class
with a race to spare.

Friday 29th April 2016
Rock ‘n Roll Thursday
Antigua Sailing Week burst back
into action after Presidente Lay Day
with some terrific rock and roll action
off the South Coast of Antigua. The
trade winds were back with 16 knots
from the south-east, piping up to fullon
foam up in 20 knot gusts. Brilliant
blue skies with warm Caribbean water
and a two metre swell; these are the
conditions that any sailor wants to experience
and over a 1,000 salt encrusted
yachters were grinning from ear-toear
after a wicked day of racing.
With 28 yachts 50ft or over at Antigua
Sailing Week, there were some
seriously hair-raising starts as the goliaths
powered to windward off Rendezvous
Beach. Tony Langley’s TP52,
Gladiator was fully launched, covering
the 16 mile windward leeward course
in just over an hour. Belting along at
top speed upwind, pounding through
the waves before pulling the trigger
downwind, hitting the turbo charger to
accelerate past 20 knots on the surf.
Try as they might, Piet Vroon’s
Dutch Ker 51, Tonnerre 4 could not
hold onto the powerful British TP52’s
coat tails, but seized the opportunity
in the first race of the day when Gladiator
shredded a spinnaker. Tonnerre 4
passed Gladiator only to see their own
kite blown to bits. Gladiator took both
races to win CSA 3, even with a race to
spare tomorrow. Tonnerre 4 is assured
of second place and the only battle remaining
in the class is for the last podium
spot. Bernie Evan Wong’s Antigua
TP52 Team Taz-Conviction has a point
advantage over Adrian Lee’s Cookson
50, Lee Overlay Partners.
CSA 6 has also been decided. Ross
Applebey’s Royal Southern Yacht Club
team racing Oyster 48 Scarlet Oyster is
untouchable with a race to spare. Scarlet
Oyster won both of today’s races.
Kay-Johannes Wrede’s German Swan
44, Best Buddies is assured of second
place and Carlo Falcone’s Caccia alla
Volpe will take third, regardless of the
result of tomorrow’s last race.
Sir Hugh Bailey’s CS40, Gypsy-UGo,
along with Gladiator remain
the only two teams to post straight bullets
for the series. Chris Body’s J/122,
El Ocaso lost their winning streak,
placing fifth and third in today’s races.
Hot on their heels is Richard Matthews’
Team Oystercatcher racing
Grand Soleil 43 Quokka which won
both of today’s races. El Ocaso needs
a top four finish tomorrow to be sure of
winning CSA 5.
The action in CSA 4 is red hot, with
just four points separating the top four
teams. Jim Hightower’s Texan King 40,
Hot Ticket found it tough going against
the lighter displacement yachts in the
class today, resulting in two fourth
places. However Hot Ticket is still
cont’d on pg 19
