“ The Man” Pedicure
Healthy
Living
The fear of the unknown is usually
what deters men from getting the much
needed (and enjoyable) pedicure. Also
the idea of “getting your nails done”
is generally seen as feminine, so many
men shy away from nail services thinking
they’ll be viewed as namby-pamby.
We understand that guys are generally
nervous about taking the leap because
the nail salon is often seen as unfamiliar
territory. But if you set aside the feminine
connotations of a pedicure, it ends up
just being a relaxing hour of clipping,
grooming, and massage.
If you’re new to pedicures, here is
the why, when, and how on this beneficial
nail service.
Why: Not only are pedicures very
relaxing and release stress, they also have
health benefits. Pedicures can reduce
foot odor but removing dead skin, dirt,
and bacteria from the feet. They can also
prevent ingrown toenails. If you’ve ever
experienced an ingrown toenail you’ll
know that they can be extremely painful
and can even require surgery. It’s unfortunate
because they can easily be prevented
with proper foot care.
When: Monthly! Carve some time
into your schedule to get pedicures at
least every 4-6 weeks. Also, if you’re
afraid of going at prime times because
you’d like to avoid being in a crowd of
women, opt for a midday appointment or
early evenings. This will give you the best
chance of going during a slower period
so you can have some peace and quiet.
How: Make an appointment. I
would definitely recommend booking a
service at a reputable spa in your area.
Not only will the atmosphere be comfortable
and the staff more accommodating,
but sterilization and sanitation standards
are closely monitored. At Murrieta Day
Spa, we serve beer, wine and cocktails so
you could enjoy a relaxing beverage with
your service. This extra bonus certainly
makes for a more pleasurable experience!
There are many men who proudly
admit to getting monthly pedicures. Celebrities
such as David Beckham, LeBron
James, and Michael Jordan claim it is an
important part of their grooming routine.
So don’t be anxious about pedicures!
They’re for everyone!
Temecula Valley Hospital – The Gift of Life
Temecula Valley Hospital is proud
of its partnership with One Legacy in
supporting a strong organ donation
process. One Legacy is the non-profit
organization in our area dedicated to
their mission of saving and healing
lives through organ and tissue donation,
comforting the families they
serve, and inspiring our community to
Donate Life.
Stories of organ donation are often
shared to stress the importance of how
this vital decision can save many lives
through the tragedy of a loved one’s
passing. Two recent stories of the ultimate
gift of life occurred at Temecula
Valley Hospital.
In December of 2015, a young
woman in her thirties was admitted to
the ICU at Temecula Valley Hospital
after a cardio pulmonary arrest (post
CPA). As a result of her decision to
become a registered donor, Donate
Life was able to honor the donor’s gift
and three lives were saved. A 27 year
old female received her left kidney, a
47 year old female received the right
kidney, and her liver saved a 53 year
old male.
In March of this year, a woman
in her forties was admitted to the ICU
after a fatal fall and was declared brain
dead. Her life was honored with the
donation of a left kidney to a 34 year
old female, a right kidney to a 43 year
old male, and a double lung to a 50
year old female. Countless others will
have improved lives through her tissue
donation and bone recovery. These
gifts provide a second chance at enhancing
the quality of life for numerous
individuals.
It is only fitting that Temecula
Valley Hospital acknowledges the
families of these generous donors and
thank them for making the difficult
decision to give the gift of life. We are
honored and humbled by their courage.
As a result of their giving, many donor
recipients across the country will be
celebrating their new lease on life with
their families.
Temecula Valley Hospital is located
at 31700 Temecula Parkway,
and brings advanced technology, innovative
programs, patient-centered
and family sensitive care to area
residents. The hospital features 140
private patient rooms, 24 hour a day
emergency care, advanced cardiac and
stroke care, orthopedics and general
medical care and surgical specialties.
did you forget to spring clean your technology?
what are they doing to make sure
their equipment is running up to par?
Regardless of your business type
or structure you could easily argue
that your computer is the most important
component to your ability to
function and work efficiently. If you
haven’t done it yet, Summer may
actually be a better time to assess
your environment while many people
are on vacation or working less hours
with children home from school.
Completing the following steps will
set you up for success come Fall
when things tend to pick up again.
Ensure you are running the
latest software. Running the latest
software on your system sounds easy
but there is a lot of considerations. Just
about everything you use produces
software updates; your browser, plugins
such as Java and Flash, and the
often forgotten printers and scanners.
Running the latest software will allow
you to utilize new improvements and
keep your system more secure. If you
are not getting emails from the manufacturers
you can find them with a
quick online search.
Do some actual cleaning. Your
hardware and software need to be
periodically cleaned as well. Get a
can of air spray to clean out your
keyboard and the vents in your desktop
or laptop. Replace the batteries
in your mouse and keyboard or at
the very least make sure you have
extra on hand…... batteries tend to
die at the worst possible time and
then you’re stuck searching for
other items to steal them from. I’m
sure I’m not the only one who has
stolen batteries from a TV remote!
Run a virus scan on your computer.
Malwarebytes and CCleaner have
free online options.
Backups and file sharing.
Have you made any changes to your
system files since the last time your
backup was configured? This is a
very common cause of data loss.
Users forget to update their backup
configuration after making changes
or adding files to their system. If
you’re utilizing a file share system
with others now is a great time to
clean it up and organize it to ensure
you are working efficiently.
2017 budgeting. Yep, I said
it. 2017. We are already half way
done with 2016 and it is time to
start thinking about hardware
and software purchases next year.
More often than not, it is cheaper
to purchase a new system than it is
to fix yours. What is not working
for you? Where do you need to be
more productive? Utilizing newer
technology can help.
Just as you take your car in
for an oil change; your technology
requires periodic tune ups as
well. If the tasks listed here seem
daunting, it may be time to engage
an IT resource. Smooth running
technology is not a luxury, it is a
requirement for conducting business
effectively. Take the time and
make the investment to set yourself
up for success.
