The Mecca Clock Tower
It was established on top of the tallest building
overlooking the Holy Mosque of Mecca, and
stands at 400 meters above the ground. The
clock tower has one clock on each of the four
faces; two main clocks, one facing the Holy
Mosque from the North, and the other at the
South. Each of the clock›s four faces measure
43 meters in diameter and are illuminated
by 2 million LED lights, with four oriented
edges, just above the clock alongside the
largest Arabic script reading: Allah Akbar
“God is the Greatest”. The tower beautifully
lights up on special festive occasions and its
top flashes five times a day with each call
to prayer, “Athan”. Mecca has numerous
accommodation options from five-star
hotels and fully furnished luxury apartments,
to modest hotels and rent apartments that
will suit all needs and budgets. The Holy
Mosque’s vicinity is blessed with mega
projects that represent a paradigm shift in
the urban development of the holy capital.
Some examples of such projects are: the
Huker Children Entertainment Center on the
Ring Road, Badrah Center in the Al Zahir
District, and the Happy Child Recreation
Center in Alraseefah neighborhood.
The Saqqaf Palace
This palace was used by King Abdulaziz in holy
Mecca, and consists of two floors. It is located
in the Maabda District in downtown Mecca and
holds 9,000 square meters of space, and the
construction shows fine Islamic engineering
style. The palace also contains several pieces of
Islamic artwork.
The Museum of the Two
Holy Mosques
The museum is situated near the Ka’aba covering
fabrics factory in the Om Aljood neighborhood
in Mecca. The museum consists of seven halls,
and it was established to showcase the story,
history and urban elements of the holy capital,
including the Two Holy Mosques. The main hall
has enlarged photos and models of the Two Holy
Mosques. Another hall is the “holy mosque” hall,
which contains valuable pieces of antiques and
calligraphy. The third hall is the holy Ka’aba hall,
which contains replicas of the Ka’aba covering
fabrics, their sewing machine, and its old door.
The photography hall in the museum also
contains rare photos of the holy mosques,
while the manuscripts hall contains samples of
materials from the holy mosques library has
such as manuscripts, documents and a copy of
the Quran belonging to Othman Bin Affan, may
God have mercy on him. The Zamzam water well
hall exhibits the well borders used in the early
14th century on the Islamic calendar, and some
old and recent photographs of the well. The last
