Electrical current
outlets
The electrical current outlets in Saudi Arabia
are 110 and 220 volt. There are different
types of AC power plugs and sockets used
in Saudi Arabia. We recommend using an AC
adaptor and a voltage converter/regulator
to protect your devices and appliances from
voltage variation.
Calendar
Gregorian and Hijri calendars are
simultaneously widely used in business and
public. The Hijri calendar starts on the day
that the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon
him, migrated from Makkah to Madinah and it
is the official calendar in Saudi Arabia.
The Hijri year has 354 days divided into 12
lunar months.
Time zone
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is located within one
time zone, which is + 3 GMT.
Transportation
The Kingdom has four international airports,
which are: King Khaled Airport in Riyadh,
King Abdel Aziz Airport in Jeddah, King
Fahd Airport in Damam, King Muhammed Ibn
Abdel Aziz Airport in Madinah, and 22 other
local airports.
The only railroad in the Kingdom (480km)
connects Riyadh to Damam.
The Kingdom is linked by modern highways
and road networks, making it easy to get
from one place to another. Companies such
as Saudi Public Transport Company (www.
saptco.com) provide excellent public bus
service, and several taxi companies operate
in major cities, especially at airports and
shopping malls. Taxi fares are based on the
distance driven and should be agreed upon
prior to services.
Many international car rental companies
provide services at airports and hotels.
Car rental procedures can be initiated and
completed abroad. A male visitor holding a
valid driving license from another country, or
an international driving license, may rent and
drive a car in the kingdom. The Kingdom uses
the left driving system in which the driver’s
seat is on the left side of the vehicle
