Festivals Commission has<br />

new financial controller<br />

The Festival Commission now has<br />

a full time financial controller who has<br />

just been appointed.<br />

Minister Responsible for the Festival,<br />

E Paul Chet Greene, has announced<br />

the appointment of Kendra Weste to the<br />

position with immediate effect.<br />

He said there have been several recommendations<br />

broke out amongst a group<br />

of patrons who were at front<br />

stage.<br />

One of the police constables<br />

who was on duty at<br />

the event responded to the<br />

group, he observed that the<br />

defendant was the aggressor<br />

and attempted to arrest him.<br />

However<br />

the<br />

of the activities under the remit of the<br />

commission, there was now a compelling<br />

need for it to have its own full-time<br />

financial controller.<br />

“The Festival Commission handles<br />

millions of dollars every year implementing<br />

its calendar of events and it<br />

was felt that the demands of the position<br />

were as such that it needed a financial<br />

controller who is available at all times to<br />

defendant reportedly<br />

grabbed the officer by<br />

his neck, held him in a<br />

choke lock and dragged him<br />

some twenty feet a cross the<br />

ground.<br />

Other officers present<br />

responded to the attack and<br />

were able to subdue the<br />

enraged defendant. He was<br />

arrested and charged with<br />

resisting arrest, Indecnt language,<br />

and battery.<br />

Albert who resides at Old<br />

Road, pleaded guilty to all<br />

the charges yesterday before<br />

Chief Magistrate Walsh.<br />

For indecent language<br />

he was convicted and fined<br />

$500 forthwith, in default<br />

he will spend one month at<br />

HMP; for resisting the police<br />

he was convicted and<br />

fined $500 forthwith, in default<br />

of payment he will be<br />

sentenced to six months at<br />

ensure the smooth running of the commission,”<br />

Greene explained.<br />

Weste recently returned from studies<br />

aboard where she qualified in the related<br />

subjects that earned her the appointment.<br />

Meanwhile, Greene has expressed<br />

his thanks and appreciation to outgoing<br />

financial controller, Leslie-Ann Yearwood,<br />

who has been financial controller<br />

for the past two years.<br />

He also commended the Board under the leadership of<br />

Senator Mary Claire Hurst and he management team led by<br />

Port Manager Darwin Telemaque.<br />

ordered to pay compensation<br />

to the responding officer in<br />

the amount of $1,000 forthwith.
