Marine basins (biogeographic regions)<br />

<strong>Puget</strong> <strong>Sound</strong> is divided into nine sub-basins which are defined primarily by oceanographic zones<br />

and sills (Ebbesmeyer et al.1984). These nine sub-regions are: West Strait of Juan de Fuca, East<br />

Strait of Juan de Fuca, San Juan Archipelago, Strait of Georgia, Whidbey Basin, Admiralty Inlet,<br />

Hood Canal, Central <strong>Puget</strong> <strong>Sound</strong>, and South <strong>Puget</strong> <strong>Sound</strong>.<br />
