3.1.2 Overall architecture <strong>and</strong> components<br />

From an architectural point of view, the DS8800 offers continuity with respect to the<br />

fundamental architecture of the predecessor DS8100, DS8300, <strong>and</strong> DS8700 models. This<br />

ensures that the DS8800 can use a stable <strong>and</strong> well-proven operating environment, offering<br />

the optimum in availability. The hardware is optimized to provide higher performance,<br />

connectivity, <strong>and</strong> reliability.<br />

Figure 3-2 <strong>and</strong> Figure 3-3 show the front <strong>and</strong> rear view of a DS8800 base frame (model 951)<br />

with two expansion frames (model 95E), which is the current maximum DS8800 system<br />

configuration.<br />
