4. After you have successfully created the partition <strong>and</strong> partition profile, leave the partition in<br />

the Ready state.<br />

The following steps are for performing a new base operating system installation on a logical<br />

partition using the partition's media device.<br />

5. Activate the (new) partition allocated for <strong>SAN</strong> <strong>Boot</strong>, by performing the following:<br />

a. Insert the AIX Volume 1 installation media into the media device of the managed<br />

system.<br />

b. Verify that the DVD is assigned to the current partition.<br />

c. Right-click on the partition to open the menu.<br />

d. Select Activate. The Activate Partition menu opens with a selection of partition<br />

profiles. Highlight the desired Profile.<br />

6. Select Open Terminal window or Console Session at the bottom of the menu to open a<br />

virtual terminal (vterm) window.<br />

7. Select Advanced to open the Advanced Options menu.<br />

8. For the <strong>Boot</strong> mode, select SMS (system management services).<br />

9. Select OK to close the Advanced Options menu. Select OK again to open a vterm window<br />

for the partition. Figure 5-132 shows the Main Menu:<br />

10.Press 5 key to Select <strong>Boot</strong> Options. Press Enter. Multiboot menu is shown, as in<br />

Figure 5-133 on page 379<br />
