UNDER EIGHT WHITE
Thank you to the Sharks Under 8’s White boys and their families for an
awesome year of Rugby League. We started the season by modifying
our training sessions into two parts the 1st 30mins practicing pass and
tackle drills and the last 30 mins playing a game against Jas/Kate Mac’s
U8 Maroons, special thanks to them this proved most beneficial to
increase our skill-set and overall sharpening of the team’s toughness.
This showed with 10 wins out of 13 games.
With only one new addition to our squad we welcomed #4 Terrell to
the team who added extra strike power to our 2nd or 3rd hit up he
was consistent at breaking tackles and showed good line speed in
defense. Our big boppers with strength and courage was #7 Kane and
#10 Brayden thanks boys for aiming straight down the middle of the
field, true hard forward running was the key and a big fend got rid of
any unwanted tacklers. We spoke to the boys about running good lines
#2 Cooper and #3 Angus showed us how to do it, Coops running at
holes not the player discovered the try line numerous times and Angus
would change the angle of attack catching apposing defenders sliding
to far allowing him to hit the try line untouched.
Our defense was relentless thanks to our bone crushers #1 Kobi and
#5 Coby earned the nick name Pity ( Pit bull) after levelling out the
biggest players on the field they would stop running his way and
Williams would decimate anyone in front of him with a great squared
up tackle technique locking his head to the player using them to
cushion his fall and then both boys repeating the effort in attack with
a hop step and dummy pass they would launch over the try line Fiji
sevens style, NRL written all over these boys.
Lightning speed was our secret weapon we had it in trumps with #8
Benji, # 6 Jack #9 Max Taylor. Benji nicknamed (the Diesel), he was
hard to tackle with a powerful leg drive and a Maori side-step he
would create his own gaps, hit top gear then it was a full sprint to
the try line scoring loads of points for his team.
