Women In Bay Area Business”<br />
by the San Francisco Business<br />
Times in April. This was the third<br />
consecutive year that Julie has<br />
been named to the list.<br />

1980<br />
Curtis Taylor was recently honored<br />
by the U.S. Track & Field and<br />
Cross Country Coaches Association.<br />
He was named national women’s<br />
assistant coach of the year for<br />
the <strong>2016</strong> NCAA DI outdoor season.<br />

1999<br />
Two-time All-American who holds<br />
Cal’s career home run record<br />
and helped the Bears to the 2002<br />
national championship, Veronica<br />
Nelson was elected to the<br />
Cal Athletic Hall of Fame Class<br />
of <strong>2016</strong> in May. One of the most<br />
powerful hitters in Cal softball<br />
history, Nelson set a school record<br />
with 19 home runs in 2001 (since<br />
broken) and still owns the career<br />
mark with 55 homers. She is the<br />
NCAA record-holder for walks<br />
(395), including 108 in 2002 and<br />
107 in 2003. A first-team All-American<br />
in 2001 and a second-team<br />
choice in 2003, she was a member<br />
of Cal’s 2002 NCAA championship<br />
team and helped the Bears to the<br />
Women’s College World Series<br />
all four of her years in Berkeley,<br />
earning All-WCWS honors twice.<br />
Nelson earned first-team All-Pac-10<br />
recognition as a sophomore and<br />
senior and was on the second team<br />
her junior year. Her 168 career RBI<br />
continues to rank fourth in school<br />
history, while her .655 slugging percentage<br />
is second all-time at Cal.<br />
Nelson boasted a team-best .359<br />
batting average her senior year and<br />
hit .329 as a junior and .353 as a<br />

2005<br />
Jesse Byrd’s novel, Oiseau the<br />
King Catcher, was runner up for<br />
Book of the Year in the Young<br />
Adult category at the <strong>2016</strong> Paris<br />
Book Festival.<br />
2010<br />
Rose Ver is working with a wellness<br />
and nutrition program called<br />
Ptera Kid, and this past summer<br />
traveled around California giving<br />
workshops for both parents and<br />
children on topics ranging from<br />
parenting picky eaters to the difference<br />
between food allergies vs.<br />
food sensitivities/intolerances.<br />
2012<br />
An intern at the Getty Museum,<br />
Hanna Girma recently curated her<br />
first art exhibit that included pieces<br />
examining how Black women can<br />
carve out their own spaces, overcome<br />
racism and assert themselves<br />
as more than just objects through<br />
art and performance. Hanna<br />
studies world arts and cultures at<br />
UCLA.<br />
In July, Junior Longrus was<br />
named to the National Association<br />
of Basketball Coaches (NABC)<br />
Honors Court, recognizing those<br />
collegiate basketball student-athletes<br />
who excelled in academics<br />
