Health Bay Area, Julie Petrini was
recognized as a “2016 Most Influential
Women In Bay Area Business”
by the San Francisco Business
Times in April. This was the third
consecutive year that Julie has
been named to the list.

Curtis Taylor was recently honored
by the U.S. Track & Field and
Cross Country Coaches Association.
He was named national women’s
assistant coach of the year for
the 2016 NCAA DI outdoor season.

1999
Two-time All-American who holds
Cal’s career home run record
and helped the Bears to the 2002
national championship, Veronica
Nelson was elected to the
Cal Athletic Hall of Fame Class
of 2016 in May. One of the most
powerful hitters in Cal softball
history, Nelson set a school record
with 19 home runs in 2001 (since
broken) and still owns the career
mark with 55 homers. She is the
NCAA record-holder for walks
(395), including 108 in 2002 and
107 in 2003. A first-team All-American
in 2001 and a second-team
choice in 2003, she was a member
of Cal’s 2002 NCAA championship
team and helped the Bears to the
Women’s College World Series
all four of her years in Berkeley,
earning All-WCWS honors twice.
Nelson earned first-team All-Pac-10
recognition as a sophomore and
senior and was on the second team
her junior year. Her 168 career RBI
continues to rank fourth in school
history, while her .655 slugging percentage
is second all-time at Cal.

hit .329 as a junior and .353 as a

2005
Jesse Byrd’s novel, Oiseau the
King Catcher, was runner up for
Book of the Year in the Young
Adult category at the 2016 Paris
Book Festival.
2010
Rose Ver is working with a wellness
and nutrition program called
Ptera Kid, and this past summer
traveled around California giving
workshops for both parents and
children on topics ranging from
parenting picky eaters to the difference
between food allergies vs.
food sensitivities/intolerances.
2012
An intern at the Getty Museum,
Hanna Girma recently curated her
first art exhibit that included pieces
examining how Black women can
carve out their own spaces, overcome
racism and assert themselves
as more than just objects through
art and performance. Hanna
studies world arts and cultures at
UCLA.
In July, Junior Longrus was
named to the National Association
of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Honors Court, recognizing those
collegiate basketball student-athletes
who excelled in academics
during the 2015-16 season. A
