<strong>2016</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Nurses Association<br />
ONA Board <strong>of</strong> Directors Activity Report<br />
The ONA Board <strong>of</strong> Directors Meetings:<br />
• Board Retreat, November 2014<br />
• Bi-monthly board meetings: January 23, April 2, June 18, and September 23, either in face to face or<br />
via conference call.<br />
ONA Accomplishments:<br />
Conducted strategic organizational planning incorporating the Bylaws changes enacted by the ONA House<br />
<strong>of</strong> Delegates. Outcomes included:<br />
• Review and update <strong>of</strong> ONA Strategic Plan<br />
• Adopted geographic boundaries to the ONA regions and developed a solution that would meet the<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> some Regions to remain separate entities.<br />
• Approved timeline and communications plan for implementation <strong>of</strong> Region changes and other related<br />
bylaws changes<br />
• Continued support for the ANA/ONA State Pilot. This agreement with ANA is to provide back <strong>of</strong>fice<br />
support in the areas <strong>of</strong> membership, finance, operations, and technology.<br />

ú New Branding from ANA<br />
• Reviewed ONA convention evaluations, schedule and provided feedback and recommendations for<br />
<strong>2016</strong> convention changes.<br />
• Collaboration among Region Presidents and Representative <strong>of</strong> best practices that work on<br />
membership recruitment and involvement as well as ensuring fiscal stability.<br />
• Continued as the co-lead for The Future <strong>of</strong> Nursing: <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Network Action Coalition.<br />
• Continued to develop financial targets for all projects to ensure revenue generating initiatives; the<br />
ultimate goal is to increase membership and sponsors.<br />
• Increased ONA/ANA membership by 4.1% since January 2015. However our growth from June 2014<br />
to June 2015 has been 9.1%. Several BOD members have attended student nurses and nurses’ day<br />
events. These activities continue to spike interest in ONA/ANA memberships.<br />
• Continued work updating <strong>of</strong> Employment Policies to meet the Standards <strong>of</strong> Excellence and current<br />
state and federal laws.<br />
• Updated Operating Policies based on the Bylaws amendments that were considered and passed by<br />
the 2015 ONA House <strong>of</strong> Delegates.<br />
ú Region and Chapter guidelines<br />
ú Region dues and structure for use <strong>of</strong> funds by each region<br />
ú Membership Development Fund guidelines<br />
• Continued as an Approved Provider <strong>of</strong> the Texas Nurses Association, Patti Muller-Smith is our<br />
Primary Nurse Planner. ONA has worked with several entities to Joint-Provide continuing education<br />
activities for Registered Nurses. To Joint-Provide an educational <strong>of</strong>fering, an ONA Nurse Planner<br />
must be involved with the planning <strong>of</strong> the event.<br />
• “Dashboard” updates reviewed at each board meeting tracking ONA BOD Strategic Plan progress on<br />
initiatives.<br />
• ONA involved in recommending nurse appointments to <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Nursing (1 ARNP and<br />
1 RN) and the Governor related to Health Care, i.e., Domestic Fatality Review Board, Physician<br />
Manpower and Training Commission, and the <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Nursing.<br />
• Organizational Partner <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Women’s Coalition.<br />
• Following legislative issues and regulatory rule changes pertinent to nursing practice, patient<br />
advocacy and health <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong>ns.<br />
