Evelyn Lutwama-Rukundo is a lecturer at the School <strong>of</strong> Women <strong>and</strong><br />
Gender Studies, Makerere University. Her research <strong>in</strong>terest is <strong>in</strong> gender <strong>and</strong><br />
enterta<strong>in</strong>ment <strong>in</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>a. She has written an article, “Danc<strong>in</strong>g to Change:<br />
Gender <strong>in</strong> the Popular Music <strong>of</strong> Kampala,” a book chapter, “Western <strong>The</strong>atrical<br />
Performance <strong>in</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> <strong>and</strong> Gender Implications”, <strong>and</strong> a book, Communication<br />
for Development: Community <strong>The</strong>atre <strong>and</strong> Women’s Rights <strong>in</strong> Bug<strong>and</strong>a<br />
(Ug<strong>and</strong>a). Besides her academic engagment, she is a screenwriter <strong>and</strong> director.<br />
Her forthcom<strong>in</strong>g films <strong>in</strong>clude a documentary on the trajectory <strong>of</strong> gender<br />
studies <strong>in</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>an universities <strong>and</strong> one on outst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g women <strong>in</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>a.<br />
Zethu Matebeni is the convenor <strong>of</strong> the Queer <strong>in</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> series, senior researcher<br />
at the Institute for Humanities <strong>in</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> (HUMA) at the University <strong>of</strong> Cape Town,<br />
<strong>and</strong> a part-time documentary filmmaker. With an <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> LGBT life <strong>and</strong><br />
activism, black queer studies, photography <strong>and</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n c<strong>in</strong>ema, Matebeni has<br />
created works such as Reclaim<strong>in</strong>g Afrikan: Queer Perspectives on Sexual <strong>and</strong><br />
Gender Identities; Break<strong>in</strong>g out <strong>of</strong> the Box; <strong>and</strong> Jo’burg TRACKS: Sexuality <strong>in</strong><br />
the City, as well as contribut<strong>in</strong>g to numerous books <strong>and</strong> journals.<br />
Jacquel<strong>in</strong>e-Bethel Mougoué is an assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> modern <strong>Africa</strong>n<br />
history at Baylor University. Her research focuses on gender, nationalism<br />
<strong>and</strong> political identity <strong>in</strong> early postcolonial anglophone Cameroon. She has<br />
presented her research at various universities <strong>in</strong> the United States, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Yale University, Northwestern University, <strong>and</strong> University <strong>of</strong> California-Berkeley.<br />
Tendai Mutukwa holds a BA Hons. (<strong>The</strong>atre Arts), University <strong>of</strong> Zimbabwe <strong>and</strong><br />
MA (Dramatic Arts), University <strong>of</strong> Witwatersr<strong>and</strong>. In 2010 she was awarded a<br />
Peace <strong>and</strong> Security Research Fellowship for <strong>Africa</strong>n Women at K<strong>in</strong>g’s College,<br />
London. She is currently pursu<strong>in</strong>g her PhD studies.<br />
Kabura Nganga is a young researcher for the <strong>Africa</strong>n Gender Institute <strong>and</strong><br />
a scholar <strong>in</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Cape Town’s <strong>Africa</strong>n studies department. Her<br />
work is on decolonisation, gender <strong>and</strong> resistance to state-sponsored violences,<br />
particularly <strong>in</strong> post-Apartheid South <strong>Africa</strong>. She has been active <strong>in</strong> various<br />
activist spaces, from the Rhodes Must Fall movement to focused activism on<br />
sexual <strong>and</strong> reproductive health rights, <strong>and</strong> hopes to never tire <strong>of</strong> want<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
world to be a better place for all.
