SUNSHINE Coast Hospice<br />
raised R20000 at its 14th<br />
annual bridge drive at Don<br />
Powis Hall, Settlers Park, last<br />
Fr i d ay.<br />
Seasoned and novice bridge<br />
players from Grahamstown and<br />
Kenton-on-Sea joined locals for<br />
the well-supported event,<br />
which will henceforth be<br />
named the Brenda Lear<br />
Hospice Bridge Drive in honour<br />
of the woman who started it.<br />
Special guest Tommy<br />
Hartzenberg was commended<br />
for selling R10 220 in raffle<br />
tickets, with the assistance of<br />
Trish Versfeld and the Hospice<br />
team.<br />
Glen’s Den donated the first<br />
prize, R1 000 cash, for the raffle<br />
and Hugh Wormald donated<br />
second prize, R750 cash.<br />
First-prize winner, known<br />
only as Robbie M, left<br />
instructions that if his name<br />
should be drawn, the money<br />
be donated to Hospice.<br />
Second-prize winner was<br />
Mitford Thompson.<br />
No grand slam was called or<br />
made, but the winners of a<br />
small slam were Andrew<br />
Osinski and Hubert Webber.<br />
The highest score in the<br />
green section was made by<br />
Helen Clohessy and Gay Ford,<br />
while the winners of the red<br />
section were Sue Purdon and<br />
Louise Butler.<br />
