Gimme a Minute: August Board Meeting By Wendy Shoffit, Region Secretary August 3, 2016 he meeting began at 7:04 T pm, with Vice President David Robertson standing in for President Jim Falgout. David thanked Social Chair Tracy Robertson for adjusting to an emergency location change. Presenting for Treasurer Richard Solomon, the region has about $126K in the bank. We will begin invoicing Slipstream advertisers as well as sponsors of the fall DE events. Richard would like to have a Boot Campaign fundraiser at one of the Drivers’ Education events. Social Chairs Tracy Robertson and Phyllis Gallegos announced that the event formerly known as Founders’ Day will be called “Maverick Region Annual Celebration” and will be at the NYLO Hotel in Las Colinas. It will be more casual than in the past, hoping to increase attendance. There will be food stations instead of a formal sit-down meal. We will still have a silent auction with quality items. We will try to have a photo contest. Teri Davis suggested arranging for a photo keepsake. Volunteer Chair Jimmy Gallegos said that initially the volunteer response was strong, but has dropped off. After soliciting input from members, he will be more detailed about future volunteer responsibilities. Advertising Chair Cindy Bliss has to step down because of work conflicts. We thanked her for her service. Bill Kruder will continue in her place. Nominating Committee Chair John Hamilton reported that two out of four existing officers are willing to continue their roles and will check on the others. As Membership Chair, he stated that membership continues to grow. We’re now at an all-time high of 2582 total members. As an employee of a local dealership, he mentioned that displaying our new marketing digital photo frames has resulted in our region brochures being picked up. Editor Jim Hirsch says we are printing 1900 copies per month. Issues remain at 40 pages and 55% is advertising, which can increase if 6 September desired and still stay within our post office limit. There was a misprint in the July issue, but Ussery Printing fixed it and printed a limited supply of corrected copies for collectors. The revised PDF was emailed to all members. He will get pricing on moving to full color. He discontinued the photos of the month, citing the themes limited photographers. He will work with Bill Orr to continue a photo feature in the future. Bill Kruder will begin a new featured article entitled “Kruder’s Cars and Conversation.” Bill Kruder has been a member for 20 years, but is now stepping up to help out with advertising. He has been using the Google doc that was created for advertisers and has contacted most by phone. He has the time and ability to do it and enjoys it. His goal is to reach out four times per year. Ad rates might need adjusting after he researches comparable publications. Rally Chair Don Sebert has nixed a summer event, but reported that the next one will be near Halloween, complete with costume contest. He hopes for a fun event and a big turnout. He is looking for input on good start or finish locations. On behalf of Monthly Dinner Social Chair Stephanie Ho, he reported that there were about 120 people at the Hard Eight BBQ and everyone had a great time. She will continue working on future locations and great deals on drinks. Guest Mark Pitaressi is a new member who looks forward to getting involved. This is his second board meeting, but has attended several events already. Historian Charlie Davis reported that the photo workshop unfortunately died because of a lack of suitable location and declining interest. He wants someone else to take the reins for the photo contest. Several in attendance offered to help, but we need an overall contest chair. Hope Shelter Advocate Bill Middleton continues planning activities to support and celebrate them on the tenth anniversary of their new facility. He will ask for donations at our September DE (during parade laps) with the focus on linens, especially for the upcoming winter. He is also hoping to have a good turnout at the Hope Christmas Party in December. PCA Tours Chair Tom Martin has a drive planned from Duncanville to the September DE. He is also looking to support Hope and is asking participants to bring a $25 Walmart gift card. The October drive will be to Rancho Sereno where we will again have good use of the space for catering. Wendy Shoffit (for Carey Spreen) requested we proceed with the approved Slipstream archival project. All present were in favor. The motion had been passed prior, so no vote was needed. She also reported that Parade in Jay Peak was a great success, particularly for Carey who trophied in three out of the four primary competitive events! The 2017 Parade will be in Spokane, Washington and 2018 will be closer, in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. We have two DE events coming up (Sept and Oct) and a Club Race (with solo-only DE) in Nov. Based on feedback from the national website competition, a team of people are now making significant improvements to the region website. Stay tuned. Lastly, presenting for Autocross Chair Mark Schnoerr, the July 24 event was well attended, with 15 Porsche participants and a few more spectators. See article and results elsewhere. Bill Orr presented a report on the success of the use of the digital picture frames. He wants three more to continue the program. After some discussion, a motion was made to spend up to $660 for that purpose. Don Sebert seconded and the motion passed. Bill also showed a presentation about the possible logo change and presented other options. After a bit of discussion, we decided to have a survey on Facebook or SurveyMonkey to solicit a public vote on the favorite. Lastly, the Mav of the Month is Joe McGlohen for his efforts as Safety Chair.
